The head of Capitol Police in the United States says there are threats that suggest extremists could target the Capitol building during an address by US President Joe Biden.

Acting chief of the Capitol Police Yogananda Pittman told politicians that Donald Trump supporters who launched a deadly assault on the Capitol last month indicated they want to "blow up" the building and kill members of Congress.

"Members of militia groups that were present on January 6 have stated their desires that they want to blow up the Capitol and kill as many members as possible with a direct nexus to the State of the Union," Ms Pittman told members of the House Appropriations Committee, as she advocated for continued high security around the building.

"We think that it's prudent that Capitol Police maintain its enhanced and robust security posture until we address those vulnerabilities going forward."

Yeah there are crazy people out there. I am not against arresting them for reasonable suspicion and then investigating them and questioning them severely. The Capitol Police Chief cannot activate the National Guard nor can he exceed his mandated force readiness in any other way to draft additional materials or manpower. The command required to enact such measures continues on to and through these various entities (in no particular order): The House Speaker's office (Pelosi), the House Committees for Armed Services/Commerce/Homeland Sec/Transportation/Ways & Means, the PSCOI, The DC Mayor's office, just to name a few. In fact, former Capitol Police Chief Sund is on written record requesting additional support SIX TIMES prior to 6-Jan and being rejected each and every single one of them by Democrats.
