    So, let's review:

The Dollar: still the global currency of business, still the most secure investment in history

The Ruble: I'm not sure I would bend over to scrape one off my shoe. 100 of them will get you a dollar menu item and a gumball.

What's Canada got to do with me? The only thing I have in common with Canada is latitude.

What "next big conflict". If Russia decides to invade someone we will do the same thing we did in Georgia and Ukraine - Nothing !

Most of the conflicts in the last 40 years where the nation was crying "Help" - the one's doing the attacking we either the USA or supported by the USA.

There will be no "next" dominant power. What will be (and already is) a bunch of powers each capable of wiping the other.

If these powers go to war ... the world as they know it ends. World has changed - The cost of attacking a nuclear power is so high that only an insane person would do such a thing. There is nothing to gain and everything to lose.

If you believe that then you have never truly looked at how men think and act. There will be another global war. There will eventually be a weapon of mass destruction used in anger. Mankind is a determined, violent, and short sighted animal. There will also be another dominant power because nation states have not changed and they all want to be on top. Most likely it will be China, though India and Russia both have a shot. Also a unified Europe could do it to if they ever got their collective poop together. We all can say "peace in our time," but our time will end and another will begin. All it takes is one short sighted leader.

People have to be convinced that the dollar is strong to keep up its value - but how long can it go on when more and more nations are trading outside of it?

Eventually the value will drop, then what do we do, start a war? There's the other factor as well, as long as the dollar is strong, we can't compete with others so we bully them. But they're not bowing to it anymore now that Russia and China are being more assertive.

I foresee a greater alliance economically, militarily and politically with the 'five eyes', Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It would help us maintain a semblance of strength considering our faltering political system, and preserve some of our cultural standards. Let's see if I'm right. :oldman:

Our government can't understand how Putin thinks, but that's only because they're projecting their own needs and greeds into the Russian Federation - an entity large enough and rich enough not to have the same needs and greeds.

So while the US makes plans on how to take what others have, Putin simply observes, and figures out how to prevent it.

Most of us make the same mistake. "If I were you ... " or "How can he/she put up with that? Anybody who xxxxxxx deserves it!" That's right we are looking at someone else's situation through our own perspective and it's often based upon misinformation, disinformation, propaganda, and lies. I guess that's OK when you and I do it but should we accept it of a government - people who are supposed to be educated, intelligent and wise?

That is one very good assessment.

But aren't they now under the American boots? We closed hundreds of bases, but still have 800 in more than 70 countries and territories - and they hate us because of it.

In the book: "Union Jackboot, What Your Media and Professors Don’t Tell You About British Foreign Policy,” political scientists TJ Coles and Matthew Alford give a good explanation of the UK and US attitude towards Russia.

“Whatever the dominant Western media asserts, Russia and China do not pose a military threat, the problem is that the West simply does not like ‘economic nationalism’ and the development of these countries,” he said.

When then-President Boris Yeltsin left his post, the country began to move into “economic nationalism,” markets ceased to be free, and US corporations had to deal with new taxes. This is what has become a real threat, but this reason can not be presented to the public – that the West “hates Russia because it does not do what it is told.”

Specialists assert that Washington exerts every effort to maintain its hegemony, but Moscow, with its unwillingness to give in, impedes the domination of the neoliberal order.

I don't totally agree with the following:

UK considered Russia to be “an enemy” already in the early twentieth century, while British historians regard this period as the “First Cold War.” At that time, countries were struggling for strategic resources and trade routes and, after the Revolution of 1917, Russia began also representing an ideological threat.

I think the authors are not going back far enough and not taking all the embedded distrust into account. As an example, in the 19th century Britain and France entered the Crimean War in support of the Ottoman Empire for fear of Russia controlling the Bosporus. But why the fear, and why a preference to have Constantinople under Ottoman control, when the city was predominantly Greek and Christian?

Well - if you put it that way .. OK Obviously if we go the nuclear route - the destruction may be so great that we turn back the clock of history.

It was Einstein who said that he did not know exactly how the 3rd world war would play out but - he knew how the 4th world war would be fought ... "Sticks and stones".

My post assumed (sorry if I did not make that clear) that the nuclear option was not chosen. In that case no one dominates militarily - it is a stalemate.

    Today?
Iraq was invaded 15 years ago.
I see that Russian trolls keep trying to play on the passions of the liberals from prior generation.

I know, you're one of those who claims that any bad deed by the U.S. was ancient history, committed by some previous president .... BUT NOW America is the righteous mongrel in the pack until the next term comes along to reveal what a rogue nation the U.S. was .... and still is.

I see that American trolls keep trying to play on the hysteria of the wolf-crying drum beaters from every American generation, in fear of Nazis and Communists and liberals and conservatives and blacks and Japanese and Muslims and the United Nations and even education.
