American Electric Power (AEP), announced it would close H.W. Pirkey Power Plant, a large 721-megawatt coal plant located in Hallsville, Texas, in March 2023. SWEPCO told FOX Business that it elected to shutter the plant "after an economic analysis weighing the cost of environmental compliance and needed maintenance.".........................

In addition, two environmental groups, the Environmental Integrity Project and Sierra Club, filed a lawsuit against the EPA last month, accusing the agency of failing to enforce federal emissions standards at the Pirkey Power Plant and seven other Texas facilities..................

The Pirkey shutdown comes as the federal government, state governments and environmental groups continue to push a rapid green transition away from fossil fuel power like coal to clean energy sources like wind and solar. Proponents of the transition have argued that such an aggressive switch is vital to save the planet from climate change.

President Joe Biden, whose administration has supported the green transition, said earlier this month that he would work to shutter coal plants "all across America" and replace them with wind and solar power.

    end snip

More heinous work under Democrat control. More folks lose their jobs. An already stressed power grid will have a generation source taken off-line. And, we're told to buy electric cars but Democrat policies reduce the grid?????? This war on fossil fuels needs to end

    Energy = Freedom.

They are deliberately restricting our access to energy as yet another means of illicit control.

Check out how they are strangling oil, natural gas, and coal, by deliberately driving up the price, while also wind energy prices are skyrocketing. And these are subsidize prices, add in the cost of taxpayer subsidies and the costs are higher.

The subsidized cost of Wind power has nearly doubled in 3 years!

Vote as many of these bastards out at every opportunity.

I haven't seen solar panels or EVs at the homes of Biden, Gore, and many other libs.

Solar has its niche. I have a panel on the roof of my motorhome. It charges the batteries when we park somewhere. Of course it can't run the unit, for that we need "shore power" or the generator but it extends the length of time the battery can keep the fridge running (it's a DC fridge)

Other than that, solar and wind are not the solution to replacing fossil fuel despite what Democrat voters may believe

I agree. It’s no free market choice when overbearing regulations are what shut you down. Specially right after the president of the United States (joe Biden) comes out and says “we’re going to shutdown coal power plants”. It’s obviously an industry targeted by a president. That’s not free market at all.

yep, solar panels on a RV are a must, they do supplement power and extend time to be off grid for sure - can't wait for the newer panels to be released, more power, all the better

what's ironic is some States make living off grid harder then others

White House and Al Gore's roofs. Those rectangular objects are called "solar panels".

If a plant can't operate w/out flinging coal ash profitably, it has no business being open. What were the plant managers doing? Were they unaware that we are moving towards a cleaner environment?

So the decision to close was publicly announced over two years ago, under the evil anti-coal T**** admin, and it's now hitting the news and becoming an issue?
    <snif snif> What's that smell?
