Elon Musk could face lawsuit for calling cave rescuer a “pedo guy”
Musk lobs baseless charge at rescuer who said his submarine idea was "PR stunt."
    Jon Brodkin - 7/16/2018, 11:38 AM

A diver who helped rescue boys trapped in a Thailand cave may sue Elon Musk after the tech billionaire called the rescuer a "pedo guy."

Diver Vernon Unsworth was instrumental in the rescue, and he said that Musk's attempt to build a small submarine for the rescue effort was a "PR stunt" that had no chance of working. Musk soon promised to prove Unsworth wrong—and lobbed a baseless charge of pedophilia at the rescuer.

In a series of tweets yesterday, Musk initially challenged Unsworth to "show [the] final rescue video" before writing, "You know what, don't bother showing the video. We will make one of the mini-sub/pod going all the way to Cave 5 no problemo. Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it."

Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, offered no evidence or justification for his claim that Unsworth is a pedophile. When another person on Twitter pointed out that Musk is "calling the guy who found the children a pedo," Musk responded, "Bet ya a signed dollar it's true." Musk has since deleted the tweets.

Musk's outburst came just a week after he said in a Bloomberg interview that he would try to be less combative on Twitter. "I should probably say nothing more often," Musk said at the time.

Personally, I'm thinking Tesla and SpaceX may be better off without this nutbag going forward.

I used to have a lot of respect for Musk.

He seemed brilliant and daring but lately he's just become a nuisance.

Every big disaster he has to get involved and say his technology can save the day and it never does.

He was going to solve PR's power problems by creating a vast array of batteries....never happened.

Maybe Musk should just start writing science fiction novels instead.

Well he does deserve some credit, he invented the first reusable space rocket.

    That is huge.

And not sure if you've had a chance to drive a Tesla yet but they are fricken awesome.

Well he might not have invented it but he made it work in the real world.

I actually really like the guy and think he's a thinker way ahead of his time but he gets sidetracked easily.

I imagine if Ben Franklin were alive today I'd be bitching about the same thing.

Musk is one of those people that will have 1000 ideas flop but will, every once in awhile, create something that revolutionizes the world.

Even though he's a tree hugger I'm still a fan.

Like Tesla, he's a man who has a vision and that's his priority....he's almost gone broke in the past and he probably will end up broke on his death bed, thinking of more ways to improve the world.

That is a rare thing in the world.

He went a long way towards solving the problem. Further than Trump did in any event

I have to wonder how "his" companies would fare without him. Is he to SpaceX and Tesla what Steve Jobs was to Apple? Certainly the two men have their outward similarities as "eccentric" leaders who steer their companies very tightly, so I kind of have to wonder where SpaceX and Tesla would go without Musk. I have to think that they would go on succeed in their respective industries if they got competent leadership to take his place, as they are already using and developing some great technologies that should easily have a future.

    No, he didn't.

It was pretty much all just an idea.

Just reading what he is doing for PR. basically he is replacing a traditional central infrastructure with state of the art microgrd system relying on renewables. Long term this has huge implications for a country that has to import all its fossil fuel

What problem did Musk almost solve? PR power?

I like that he offered help in terms of the submarine, but he was out of depth in the specifics. From listening to the cave story (before his offer), they were mentioning that at points the divers have to take off their tanks. If a cave passage doesn't have room to maneuver for a diver with a tank on his back, there's no way a 6' long rescue module will work.

Musk should, as many should, just not log into Twitter every day.

Of course. I'm no Trump fan. I voted against him twice (only got to vote against Hillary once). Trump was the lesser of the evils, but I decided this last election not to vote for any evil.

He shouldn’t call people pedo without proof, though.

That's a tough trick to do!

As for Musk's Tweet, he's a ****ing idiot for saying it. I expect he'll be donating a lot of money toward the Thai diving team.

Would it cause you harm to stay on topic in a thread? There are dozens of threads where you can go passive aggressively worship your little god.

I mean or 1) that video he mentions the guy is on tape doing something that could arguably be groping one of the boys or 2) dude pissed him off so much he used the gigantic stick created by his billions of dollars and connections to find some dirt on the dude. Not precisely unheard of.
