Former Department of Justice spokesperson Matt Miller described the letter as “essentially a criminal referral to DOJ for Trump making a false statement in a previous financial disclosure.”

Trump's financial report lists $100,000 in payment to Cohen. That statement was included on the 45th page of a 92-page disclosure. It has been previously stated that Cohen was on retainer so payments to Cohen would not be something abnormal or illegal.
