Anyone else notice the lack of salt on everything bagels? They seem to be "everything but salt" bagels.

Bagels tend to have a ton of salt in them even if you can't taste it--anywhere between 20% to 70% of your recommended daily intake. I think the bagel shop at my university used to have a salted caramel topping but I never tried it. Didn't sound appealing at all. I was a strict onion bagel with cream cheese purchaser but would very seldom indulge in those. Bagels are pretty unhealthy, empty calories.

I don't like bagels. I'm glad I don't. They're generally not healthy. Waste of calories. Empty calories should be spent on something tastier.

Other people appear to disagree though. Bagels are a common thing bought for the whole office and it's nice to not be tempted by it.

We get a never-ending stream of cupcakes, doughnuts and the like at work. There is nothing to make you lose your sweettooth like having that stuff at hand all the time. Someone brought us 24 gourmet cupcakes Monday. As of today, only 3 had been eaten.

I wish that was the case for me. I've lost weight but only while counting all calories for 9 months. I always want more. I tried having a free day, eating as much as I wanted of anything I wanted - later calculated it was 10,000 calories.

I mean, quality matters. I'm not going to eat those crappy grocery store cakes/cupcakes made with crisco. But if really good stuff is around, my limit is quite high.

Salty can be my devil, but I have learned just not to take one foot down that road. Won't be finding any chips in my house. My one indulgence in salty-ish food usually involves cauliflower because the salt stands out on it so it seems saltier than it is. I couldn't eat 10K a day. That would be just too much work. I am not vegan but I am pretty light on meats so that would be a ton of fruits, beans, pasta, rice or vegetables.

Maybe you've never had a real bagel. They are rare outside NYC.
