As a 73 year old gay male I have had not exprience of being sexually attracted to females of my species. In my teenage years I did fall in love with a few girls but was never able to become arroused with them. I fact I found the female anatomy somewhat repulsive especialy those dear girls with bums extending half way down to their knees.
Hidden within so many of the puritan viewpoints expressed here is the notion sexuality can be changed. Given the frightenly high suicide rate induced by ‘cure by prayer’ movements I suggest some are playing at being God when they simply should accept those he supposedly created for what they are.

Gays have triple the suicide rates as heterosexuals, so there is a reason to think that its not the greatest of activities.

Theres also the evolutionary cul de sac that gays represent. Purely from an economic perspective, macrologically, gays arent worth the social investment.

It needs saying, probably again and again. My gay friends over the years have said they were never physically attracted to the opposite sex. They all said, too, they would not have chosen to be a homosexual because of the discrimination they face. I've never met anyone, gay or straight, who said anything other than they discovered their sexuality as they grew up. There was no choosing.

The strange thing about homophobes I've run across is they share the experience of discovering their sexuality. Go figure.

 

Of course, you have every right to choose your own path. I think you're on shaky ground morally if you try to impose your values on society without a well-reasoned, logical thought process. That applies to people imposing their values on society that impacts you.

 

I agree that we don't choose our sexual preferences. It's just one day we realize that we like a particular type of person over another, and that's how things are. Okay, so some preferences aren't all that great when it comes to certain things, but there's just no choice in the matter.

Still, there's no getting around certain harsh realities. One of those harsh realities is that there are probably going to be people who think your preference is not socially acceptable.

The issue if far more serious when funamentalists riddle young minds with guilt , fear of being possessed by Satan and of being too week to repel his influence. The resulting rate of youth suicide is horifying.
