Because General Flynn's "crime" was never something that would have been perused in a standard legal setting. What he actually did was forget to include minor details about the recollection of a request and response scenario back in 2016. It was quite an exceptionally minor offense in the context of how incredibly avid Mr Mueller pursuit of him was. Mr Cohen on the other hand committed tax fraud and bank fraud. Those types of crimes are regularly perused and prosecuted.

So the difference is that Gen Flynn was largely a casualty of the zealotry to take down President Trump whereas Mr Cohen is just guilty of his crimes.

Flynn very possibly was willing to wear a wire and that will be the end of Trump.

Well, misunderstanding the extent of Flynn's offense and plea aside, you are basically correct.... Cohen did worse than Flynn..
I just had to ask a question to get a valid thread...

Just read the full Bob Mueller 7 pager.... It's basically the same as the Flynn memo, without specifics and redactions...

Summary - SDNY doesn't feel too kindly to what Cohen could give them, but Mueller basically did...

Still no in depth knowledge about what either Flynn or Cohen told Mueller...

    Giddyup!!!

From what I'm reading Cohen said he had the dirt on Trump and russian collusion and was willing to flip to get a light sentence. It looks like he made stuff up that couldn't be corroborated and played Mueller like a fish so now Mueller is getting even for being made to look like a fool.

The Counsel clearly thinks it can pull the slight of hand everyone's talking about: "Okay, there's no collusion but there were some crimes!" Yeah, and that wouldn't be a problem if they were being normally investigated and didn't falsely implicate the President. The real loser is Congress, who refused to act on numerous reform proposals, for that very ignorant and arrogant presumption of implication.

Don't know where you are getting that.... Mueller is being relatively kind to Cohen... the SDNY is playing the "Bad Cop" here, laying the wood down...

Cohen lied to Mueller at around the same time he lied to Congress, then had to correct those lies in the 2nd Mueller meeting...

To this day, Cohen is lying. Which is why this will never be a criminal case. When all of your witnesses have spoken false testimony out of court, the defense will most certainly aim to compel false testimony in court.

You act as if Mueller and the SDNY are two separate entities. They are on the same team

Not really in this case.... They each submitted different sentencing memos on the 2 different Cohen crimes, but to the same judge (I think)...

VOX has the 2 documents side by side.... SDNY is hard to read (40 pager), but Muellers is more clear (7 pager)... It wasn't super clear this morning that there would be 2 separate Cohen/Government sentencing memos...

Michael Cohen will never be in court in a trial... He's pleaded guilty... we are past all that... It's sentencing time... SDNY says 5 years or so, Mueller says (I think) that his sentence for lying to Congress can be served concurrently with the SDNY charges...

Cohen is no longer lying because Mueller has documentation that his current pleas are true.

    Sorry!

Yes. Cohen isn't signing a full cooperation agreement because there is some serious dirt in his background that would net him a larger sentence, cooperating agreement or not.

Yeah but after two years of bashing the law on Twitter I absolutely believe Trump will never leave the White House by his own accord, either impeached of electorally defeated.
He simply won't go when he law tells him to do so.
Remember, you are dealing with a mobster here. The FBI will have to smoke Trump out of his illegally obtained tennancy before he is lead out in handcuffs.
Having obtained the Presidency via criminal means, there is no reason to expect Trump will behave anything other than criminal when it concerns his removal.

Point being; it's gonna take a hell of a lot more than a wire to force Trump to surrender his self proclaimed White House throne. (Which in his case is probably the toilet.)

In any case, Mueller is coming for him...

Neal Katyal on MSNBC is saying that the SDNY memo submission is now legally confirming what Cohen said in his plea back in August.... that SDNY now has legal justification to say Donald Trump is responsible for a felony, and it's in this sentencing memo...

Doesn't sound like anything we don't already know, just that it's now filed in the open in court.

Oh, that we can all believe... if Cohen gets out of this whole thing with JUST the 9 charges and associated jail time, he's likely getting a pretty good deal...

Cohen tried and tried to save himself from his criminal misdeeds in his side business, but offered mueller zip in the grant scheme of things...So he gets what the sentencing guidelines call for.

The most important line from this filing deserves it's own thread and I made it. But I would support and suggest petitioning the mods to see if they would alter your title and link to match and delete my thread.

Federal Prosecutors ‘Concluded that President of the United States Committed a Felony’

“Just to make it crystal clear, New York federal prosecutors concluded that the President of the United States committed a felony,” said former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti.

If that's what you are saying, I'm totally not following you.... Neither sentencing memo even really covers Trump/Russia collusion, nor were they meant to.... Muellers memo says Cohen has (and is) cooperating in Muellers inquiry....

    upload_2018-12-7_18-55-25.png

Mueller once again leaves us hanging...

I don't know... I think your thread is a drill down on the sentencing memos, and equally important.... If we can have 9 threads on the Bush Funeral and it's fallout, we can support 2 threads on these memos...

    :salute:

I guess I'm still having trouble figuring out why that part is so important as we knew about Trump directing the payments back in August... Is is JUST because it's now officially filed?? Not a lawyer here....

It’s clear from the memo that the mueller witch hunters, made a conclusion first, that trump is guilty of something, Cohen was desperate to save his skin from his misdeeds at his seperate business but couldn’t quite lie enough for Mueller’s people, or at least “creditably lie”
