Finns will no longer "Get your money for nothin' get your chicks for free" . Poor Bernie must be rolling over in his black pajamas on his way to the broom factory. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-43866700
It is an interesting article. I hope people from both ends of the political spectrum will read it. I think universal income is a terrible idea, right up there with our current welfare state situation. I think "free money" makes people lazy, takes away the incentive to work harder, and reduces or eliminates any sense of personal responsibility. "Free money" also must be paid for, which means another burden on the people who are working and paying taxes. Some highlights from the article: (this sounds similar to what we have here)
Did you not read the article you linked, fail to understand what it actually said or intentionally misrepresent it for partisan political purposes?
Something for nothing is against nature. Even the buzzards have to work and fly high to get their next meal. The grazing animals and grazing birds have to work all day long every day to get enough to eat, especially in hard times of drought. But the large mammals have disappeared and continue to disappear from the earth even though they all work hard. There's nothing that impedes mammalian mankind's disappearance either. Every time a tree disappears and a slab is poured a mammal disappears.
Hey I have a great idea. After we raise babies into adults. Let's turn them back into babies again, so that they can become adults again, but without having learned a darn thing. It will be kind of like a new age Christianity (rebirth), minus the improvement.
It's a play on song lyrics. Shrug They really are ending the basic income trial, so those who were in the program (I think it said there were 2000 of them?) really will be losing their "free money". They can probably keep their chicks though
Conservatives may have to strike a "grand bargain" with progressives to allow for some low level of universal basic income (even if it's not enough to live off of) to stay in power. Several conservative ideological strategists have been trying to tell their fellow conservatives this. Inflexibibility and complete unwillingness to make any compromise is what can send the political pendulum swinging back in the other direction. Although targeted compromise is important; do the things that will hurt you least that also happen to be things that will most be appreciated by your opponents.
They had good intentions. Human nature is to pick the path of least resistance. Hard work pays off over time, but laziness pays off right now!
Finland's basic income organizers correct inaccurate media reports of trial's premature death. Finland's social insurance agency says the country's basic income experiment is alive and well, and will be continued to its completion at the end of this year. https://yle.fi/uutiset/osasto/news/...ia_reports_of_trials_premature_death/10177476
But capitalism produces wealth exponentially greater than other forms of economic structure. And if the people are not too highly taxed, there is usually plenty of charity to take care of all in need.
i mean, if you mindlessly believe everything you're told to, sure, but that's not the argument for this thread
The tax rate for most Fins is in the 60 percentile range, adding another 30 to that for basic income would basically take all their income. Basically they would take home more if they just quit their job and lived off the basic income instead.
