FIRST SNOW

I stand,childlike, at the window:
Old fool ! Nose pressed against the glass ;
Remembering other snowfalls; other wonders
Shared with someone else- at other windows and other times.

I’m sure the snow falls gentle on her churchyard resting place;
But I stand and watch it for a while :
Remembering dreams of childhood;
Remembering years of marriage;
And wondering if this first snow will be the last for me.
