But it's the bleach that worries me - well it doesn't because I wouldn't dream of ingesting the crap. If others want to ingest carcinogenics and chemicals just to save a few pennies, that's up to them.

If it's labeled as natural they didn't use bleach to plump it. Also. .5% bleach is safe for consumption.

That's totally meaningless because it depends on how many times someone consumes the amount. For example, it might be safe once a month, but twice a month and it might have a dire and long-lasting effect on human organs.

Bleach does not have a cumulative effect on the body.

Well it has an instant effect on the outside of the human body because it's used in so-called acid attacks. Where did you get your information?

The Chemical Defense Training Center in Missouri and DTRA.

I did not say it does not have an effect on the body. I said it did not have a cumulative effect. There is a difference.

To put things into perspective. .5% is safe for consumption. Household bleach has between 5.5 and 7% actual bleach. The bleach that has been used in acid attacks has been around 50 to 70% actual bleach.

Do you not understand what cumulative means?

Yes, it means either over a given period of time, or a finite number of accumulated instances. So many questions, so few answers??

They add sodium phosphate to the meats. It's not a good thing if you can find a local small farm they might not add the salt.

Before the supermarket chains forced most butchers out of business, you could have your bacon sliced any thickness you wanted at the counter, none of the prepackaged bacon.

Bacons disgusting, my father used to cook it all the time. The smell would engulf the house, even gasoline smells more pleasant. Let alone that bacon is unhealthy as f*ck, just like sausage.

    Bad Science.
Cigarettes are proven over time in well controlled population studies to be associated with cancer.
Not so the WHO list. That is theoretical and proven so untrue regarding :weed:
The presence of a carcinogen does not necessarily translate into clinical cancer.
BBQ meat is carcinogenic yet Californians do not suffer higher associated malignancies.

Bacon is NOT an unhealthy food.
There are no population studies demonstrating any unhealthy effect.

Sadly, school district now shying aware from bacon, ham, hot dogs
will just substitute more carbohydrates, as recommended.

no, monkies put in a box with smoke is not a very well controlled study
fact is, the longer recorded human to live was a smoker, a title non-smokers have yet to achieve.....

if you eat meat that has been smoked, the carcinogenics in the smoke still enter your body, just via another method

I do agree with you though, the odd increase some, but pretty much everything causes cancer in excess

getting too much sun causes cancer..... moderation is good for you, everything in moderation

Study up, Framingham Study. A prospective study over decades of the population of Framingham, Massachusetts.
    No animal studies needed.
There are lots of prospective studies regarding tobacco.
psst , the evidence is it is the nicotine, not the pyrolysis of the tobacco.
Chewing tobacco. Snuff. And tobacco free nicotine as in chewing gum

We saw some really bad science a few decades ago that said,
"Cholesterol in your mouth was cholesterol in your blood, like sugar".
    Not true.
    Never proven.
Persons who lose weight via Atkins drop their Cholesterols remarkably and Triglycerides more so.
HDL goes up, LDL goes down.
It was never proven a cholesterol molecule in your mouth is the same cholesterol molecule in you blood.
    Indeed, highly unlikely.
Vitamin D, sex hormones, adrenal gland hormones, parts of cell membranes are cholesterol.
Atkins people lower their cholesterol via rough, course, difficult to digest foods, the biological way to excrete cholesterol.

There are 0 cancers associated with :weed:
There are 0 cancers associated with bacon.
There is non Hodgekin's Lymphoma associated with your all natural oatmeal.

Pity all those diabetics told by the American Diabetes Association to avoid cholesterol
and eat more carbs. Bad Science happens. And all docs know what I say about
cholesterol is true but, preach the gospel as dictated. Go figure. I am / was not that kind of physician.

    <sigh>

Saturated fats are not necessarily bad. As a matter of fact saturated fat and protein with vitimin d is metabolized into testostrone.

But like all things in life. There needs to be a balance. One University study (Can't remember which one off the top of my head) found that diets that had too much saturated fats with less vitimin d and protein saw lower testostrone levels than leaner meats. Beef and veal vs venison and bisen. But the study was kind of flawed as it didn't account for other foods in the diet.

Saturated fats made by hydrogenating vegetable oil "are necessarily bad".
Lard, Butter, Chicken fat/schmaltz, are healthier alternatives.

    Seen any good bacon lately?
My current batch from the butcher is beautiful, thick and microwaves up nicely.
I had 3 thick pieces ala carte with coffee.
