https://www.sofmag.com/update-fort-trump-permanent-u-s-base-poland/ Well...this maybe is reassuring for Eastern Europe....having a long term USbase in poland to counter russki shenanigans. Russkis are vibrating, stating this is "destabilizing".....the only destabilizing is what theyre providing by invasions of Georgia and Crimea.)
Not to mention what they did in the Middle East since the 1960's. http://www.tldm.org/News9/RussianInfluenceOnMideast.htm
Seems like if the wild Russians decided to invade Europe the base would just become a priority target. It's kind of like thinking another carrier in the North China sea will make a difference.
I recall a US base in Syria was made a priority by Russki servicemen turned mercs....it didn't end well for the russkis. Same goes for this....but we're talking Nato bases that are much more fortified. Artillery, Apaches, F35, A10....and possible nukes. France, England possess nukes.....and probably wouldnt hesitate to use it on any remaining russian troops lucky to be alive after attacking Nato bases. Putinka would have hemmoroids and it wouldn't end well for him.
That's the point isn't it? If Russia is ready to risk a war in Europe that base will only be one more target.
Soon some one will post here that this is an act of war against the peaceful and free nation of Russia— and I will be prohibited by monitors from asking them if they’ve lost their frigging mind.
It'll keep the Russian Military-Industrial Complex in rubles. Putin will use it to fearmonger and maintain his grip on power.
That's the purpose in having forward deployed bases in countries protected by treaty obligations; they serve as a tripwire to ensure US reaction to enemy intrusions.
Aren't there some NATO countries between Poland and Russia? The U.S. already has roughly 4,000 troops in Poland. In addition to an armored brigade on rotation, infantrymen guard Poland’s border with the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad and a U.S. Air Force detachment operates in Lask. The Navy also has a contingent of sailors in the northern Polish town of Redzikowo, where work continues on a missile defense site that integrates with systems in Romania and at sea.
Hungary and Bulgaria, have a US base...at least Hungary.....im not sure about #s.....there's also several hundred "advisors" , trainers, special operations in Ukraine.....Yavoriv outside Lviv. Actual numbers idk....
No war with Russia will go nuclear. The o ky threat of nukes being used is Pakistan or stolen nuclear material used in a dirty bomb
I would say it is no worse than Russia annexing Crimea and setting up shop in Venezuela. Governments would do well to keep their traps shut most of the time.
Canada has English speakers in common with the U.S. but we don't annex Canada. If the Kremlin doesn't care about Venezuela, why has it set up shop there?
Well canada doesn't need to be "physically" annexed by military.....its "economically" annexed by the US already.....80%+ trade with all major US corporations there. Why would the Kremlin care about the average VZ? About the same as they cared about Cuba in the 60s.....somewhere to stick missiles.
