Paris (AFP) - French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday announced the creation of a new national military space force command that will eventually be part of his country's air force. The declaration -- made on the eve of France's Bastille Day national celebrations that feature a military parade down Paris's Champs-Elysees -- mirrors an initiative in the US championed by President Donald Trump. "To assure the development and the reinforcement of our capacities in space, a high command for space will be created in September," Macron told military brass gathered for a traditional pre-Bastille Day reception. He called the renewed military focus on space a "true national security issue". https://www.yahoo.com/news/frances-macron-announces-creation-space-force-command-192653885.html Looks like the French are eager to start up a Space Force of their own. Perhaps they can work as allies with the US. I expect other nations to follow, now that Trump has led the way.
Led the way for what? Another useless money pit venture?? Nothing have been learn from the 2 shuttles tragedy.
How long did the first heart transplant patients live? Progress has to start somewhere, right? I never thought I’d see progs oppose progress.
On the flip side they want to bring back mandatory school busing of school kids. A dated, highly unpopular 1970's policy.
Yeah cool. He could try to reconquer the lost districts of France before trying to have pretention on space. More seriously, it's maybe usefull. I'm a little biased because I despise Macron.
It's a pretty niche military interest of destroying your enemies' satellites while protecting your own. Necessary, but not very impressive. I'd rather we started terraforming some planets.
Well . . . they ARE traditionalists. But still this is amusing since our leftists hooted at and mocked Trump and now here's France -- one of the nations that leftists inside the U.S. usually worship -- and it is agreeing with Trump that the time has come to get serious about space in regards to the nature of actual human history regarding military realities.
A lot of people in political life aren't rationnal. If there is something did by the other side, they will be against, they will then find a reason. If we were rationnal, we would think that way : System A : A stakeholder do a proposition => Is that proposition rationnal or not ? => If yes, I would agree with it even if I disagree with most propositions of the said actor. But what actually happen System B : A stakeholder do a proposition => Do I like that stakeholder or the group associated with such stakeholder (according to the colour of skin, political group) ? => If yes I would agree, if no, I would disagree => Then I would search for the justifications of the stance I got. If we don't do any efforts, we all work on the system A. It's the default system. That's why I consider that policies are basically glorified herd instinct that we try to disguise as rationnality. It ask some efforts to work on system B. As far as I know, our heart rythm does even accelerate, our pump even pump more glucose in the blood. The nobel prize Daniel Kahneman wrote a book on that "Thinking fast and thinking slow", I didn't red it yet, but I heard a summary.
Thats part of it. The first steps. The soviets used to put cannons on their space stations. But pretty soon it will extend to extended periods on the moon, and then travel to other planets.
Well, we're clearly a country too small to explore space, and honnestly, even I would like we would explore space, right now, we have much more important priorities and we have already the third world. Such diversity. You can go from Paris to Brazzaville in 20 minutes.
