Well! The trade war has just ratchetted up several notches.
What will happen next? More diplomat expulsions? More accusations of the US being nasty?
Poor old Wanzhou, stuck in her luxurious houses in Vancouver. She must be very worried.

Well this is an interesting twist. I did think that China would make more substantive move. BUT I suppose it sends a message weak as it appears, considering the acts previously.

Considering, The US president has diluted the influence around the world of his nation. Piss enough people off and they will deal without the US. Talk of trade wars have been made far more serious with the US shut down actually showing that Trump cannot deal with his own nation let alone another. China has been ramping up the talk and actions while Trump argues about building a wall. Clearly Trump’s obsession is crippling the US both domestically and internationally. Posturing against the expansionism of China is being shown for what it is, Posturing.

As time goes on, this trade war, Trump’s war on America and his complete lack of direction on the international stage is being eroded to such a point where Nations are looking at the world stage as though the US is impotent. The US president was once considered the “the most powerful figure in the world”. I do believe Trump and his antics has eroded the office to such an extent that regardless of the power it wields the world no longer sees the US as a force in international affairs. Sure that doesn’t diminish the ability of the US just the influence that ability holds. Should Trump decide it necessary to impress that power, a strong show of force will be needed which is counter intuitive to the so called “moral standing” the US believe it has.

Of course it could be just a diversion from the wall and Roger Stone stuff.
    Could he be that cunning?

God no, Trump and smart don’t belong in the same universe as each other. I think it is just opportune in that respect and you have to notice how well it plays against the US. To me, Trump seems completely oblivious to any adversity in foreign affairs.

His wall seems to be the stupidity of inability to actually respond to boarder security. He held the nation to ransom to pay for something he promise people of the US would not have to pay for and now he thinks he can threaten again with all the support of his over bloated ego.

As for Stone, just another clear example of Trump surround by useless and inept yes men who only exist in the US political scene to enact trumps whims. Typical elitists laws just don’t exist for them, not even propriety… So we see the results….

I would say some rat cunning but the bloated ego gets in the way. Praise is the worm he will chase to the further eat ends. Just look at how Pelosi was able to play him by withholding the state of the union. I suspect she has his measure and will play on his weaknesses. I would not be surprised if she does NOT go after impeachment even with the Mueller report. What I think she will do is use that report like a noose around is neck yanking it every time he steps out of line and leaking just enough to fully discredit him.

Expect to see Trump more at the Golf course and less in front of Nancy

Pelosi has the easy job here, people like the ideal of Trump just not the reality. It has hit home, after Trump forced a shutdown, owned the pain he set on other Americans to get his own way, not for the better of the nation. Suddenly, after it became apparent the people were not happy, it hits home. Well maybe, see what happens next.

Impeachment I would suspect is not on the cards at this time. It takes a hell of a lot for Americans to support a move like that. BUT Trump is now pushing for the next election, the vindication of his dream of admiration he feels the world has for him. Guess after being a poor excuse for a man he drools for the acceptance of all people, or any.

Pelosi will definitely try to use the reports on him, but I think he is not intelligent enough to understand the issues. I think he feels his massive popularity in the sewage he gets his advice from… can he really play golf???

Trumps base show that they are impervious to everything but “winning”. While they could claim he was “winning” they were happy, regardless of the fact that many of his initiates have gone nowhere (I will ensure better health cover week one). This was a major loss of face to “gasp” a woman a d worse “gasp” a Democrat. If he loses to her again he will see his base desert. We have already seen Ann Coulter call him a wimp, and the N.Y. introduction of looser abortion laws has shocked many who thought that once SCOTUS was painted right abortion would be outlawed everywhere. I know he had nothing to do with that but that is NOT how the base thinks. That base is full of “white and right” singing “put another log on the fire”!

I like the ABC's straight reporting too, but the idea that it would significantly raise the education level of the entire country is a bit much.

They also host a lost of biased drivel that probably dumbs us down as a society. The Drum comes to mind.

To a lot of people the ABC is either God or the Devil. Then there's little old me who thinks its generally good, goes too far in a lot of areas, and its mandate is not relevant in the modern world.

If I had a choice I'd reallocate funds from the opinion shows into straight news and AM rural broadcasting.

I have sent several emails to Four Corners, Sky News, Media Watch, to no avail...my emails referred to the RC into banking, and asked why no media source hasnt made the link between the RC and the draconian bail in provisions that the coalition introduced January 2018 which effectively can be activated if a bank in Australia fails. Then I realized that no media outlet would run with this issue because they dont want to upset the slim chance that the coalition has of winning the election by digging up dirt on them.
So much for our gutless, unbiased media......

Did the promise of money/ foreign aid enter the conversation about that poor terrified Bahraini soccer player or was it just a gentle reminder about caves and junior soccer players?

I like a lot of their straight news reporting, although it's not any better than Sky News' coverage, indeed Sky's coverage of Parliament is generally better.

Their opinion shows are pure trash though. I watch The Drum with mates as a stand up comedy show. Grab the popcorn!

NZ shooting. Awful! What's the expression we use? Thoughts and prayers?
    Doesn't seem enough somehow.
