I don't know about any y'all, but I happen to Like Fruitcakes. I know the history of the fruited beast. It's about as kool to kids/teens as a trip to the dentist. In fact I'll lay odds that if Obama promised a fruitcake to all those inner city folk and college kids instead of a Free Cell phone he would have lost the Election ... Like Big Time. That the traditional, heavy fruitcake is a good door stop. Maybe it is proof as to one's age.The older one gets the more all the hype about fruitcake dissipates and one comes to their senses.Like being Idealistic in one's youth and then maturing into wisdom as the years mount. I've already finished my first fruitcake over the last week and bought a bigger far more expensive one the other day.Boy ... It's yummy.Yes,yummy best describes the gooey wonder with glazed fruits and whole nuts all stuck together with dark bread the kind Grandma works her fingers to the bone to get just right. The kind Grandpa is entrusted with lugging around the neighborhood in his big red wagon pulled by Nellie Belle as snowflakes gather, the wind whistles, and Deer look on from behind wooded pine,as even the ever cautious red fox pops his head from burrowed safety to take notice. 'Tis the Season for fruitcake. And to All a good Bite
Many types of fruitcake. The cheapest usually last the longest. I've had the german version of Fruitcake or Stollen. Some made by friends of my Mother and some bought at a German Grocery. I had one from Kroger a couple years ago that was expensive and came in a large tin.Bauducco is a traditional Italian Holiday cake.It was tricky to cut a slice. But it was good.
Love fruitcake! Im usually the guy standing in the grocery aisle reading every ingredient muttering to myself about poison and how they must be trying to imbalm us all while we're still alive... but when it comes to fruitcake for whatever reason I just accept my fate as a hapless science experiment and enjoy the delicious chemical preservative slurry. Everything in moderation ...including moderation
