Sorry Robert - keeping American crude more competitive on the market rather than pumping in cheaper Canadian crude saves American jobs. The pipeline was to include Texas which can actually produce it for cheaper. Having the tie in would have also been beneficial because there could be facilities created along the pipeline to refine the oil into gas and then sell that gas back to Canada. In other words, we would refine Canadas oil for them, thus have more jobs. Now it won't be as cost effective to do that since they would have to ship both ways before and after it is refined.
