This will be interesting either way....If Dems win it is likely a sign of things to come in 2018. If Republicans win Trump fans will give him credit and celebrate accordingly. My bet is on the Dems taking it from Republicans.
Likely going to be a run-off, but I'm interested to see if any of these pathetic "resistance" movements are finally going to get a victory.
The Democrat guy doesn't even live in the congressional district why is he on the ballot? http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/329235-georgia-dem-no-issue-i-dont-live-in-district
Not sure, but locally (Florida) candidates aren't required to live in district. The office holder is, so they have to move.
If outrage is warranted if people from other nations work to influence our national elections, then why is it acceptable for people from other states to work to influence state elections?
Um, what? Those are two separate things. Where you live and where you represent are completely different. Can I represent Hawaii if I live in Boston?
Honestly, I think the political qualifications are outdated but that would require a Constitutional Amendment and with the way the Left is now, that's short of an impossibility. Even though it wouldn't be pro-anybody, except pro-21st century. Basically, back in the Founders day, the distance between Mass and Pennsylvania was significant, and thus loyalty to one's State was paramount and equal to(if not superior) to loyalty to the country. But in today's world where we have a transit system and connection between all 50 States if you brought the Founders back, they'd agree with me: Outdated. Keep the years qualification, but you don't need the "Living in State/district" qualifer anymore.
Here's what the Constitution says about house members' qualification: The House of Representatives shall be composed of members chosen every second year by the people of the several states, and the electors in each state shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the state legislature. No person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the age of twenty five years, and been seven years a citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an inhabitant of that state in which he shall be chosen. Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several states which may be included within this union, according to their respective numbers,
Well, there never was a living in the district qualifier in the Constitution, there is a living in the state qualifier. It makes sense for your representative to live in your state, and I will admit, I wouldn't vote for a representative who didn't live in district.
Not per the Constitution, but you could live in Miami and represent Pensacola (a distance of 674 miles by road).
Is it inconvenient? Yeah, I'd argue you'd rather elect someone who has lived in your state and in your district, but it is physically possible unlike some 100 years ago. So I think we can afford to be more flexible.
I want my representative to have skin in the game. If they live elsewhere, they don't have to worry as much about what their actions will do to the area. You can vote for who you want to. I choose to vote for local representation.
Ossoff could very well win. That's a product of the GOP having WAY too many candidates in the field, and selfish candidates not realizing this and backing off if they haven't a chance. Also, the amount of outside money from DNC national and Hollywood spent there is utterly INSANE compared to the small stakes. You can't turn on the TV without seeing Ossoff ads every commercial on all the big networks. Shame too, if they had just run one GOP candidate, any of them, he'd have gone down very easy, no question. Even if Ossoff wins he's almost certain to be a one-termer. I still think there will be a runoff, but there's also a strong chance he could win outright in this perfect storm.
Man, I don't know how this one will turn out, it'll be interesting though. Lots of eyes everywhere on this and the buffoon is heavily invested in this one, personally...........
It seems you've taken the MSM/Dem party line, if Republicans win it's 'just one seat', if the Dems win it's a Trump sign of things to come. Nice to note that the 'memo ' has been received.
Since Trump carried it by about 1.5%, I have always thought that a 1st Round Dem win would be rather optimistic. Personally, I have always thought that Ossoff was going to finish somewhere north of 45%, but short of 50%.
I still never gave Ossoff a chance of getting over 50% tonight. Imagine the entertainment value of the runoff. Maybe we will get a live debate?
