It really is in the middle of no where compared to LA.

But a lot of top level California leftist politicians and their buddies and business acquaintances have gotten very, VERY wealthy from all that unaccounted for state taxpayers' money and so . . . that's nice.

True, but what's really neat about this stuff is that their useful idiot followers NEVER . . . EVER . . . learn from having been ripped off. They will just as eagerly and just as thoughtlessly lead with their emotions over intellect the very next time the exact same group of leftist scam artists recommend a massive taxpayer investment in some new pipe dream. It's sad but utterly dependable.

In California? It would be leftist scam artists investigating leftist scam artists. So why bother?

    It's not just our money.

$3.5 Billion for a train to no where, but the Democrats don't want to spend half that on border security. Talk about a waste of money.

The Bright Side Is We Are Getting High Speed Rail
    between Bakersfield and Merced!
    :roflol:
It will pass through Fresno but, sadly stop short of Modesto.

High Speed Rail to No Where.
If you saw Bakersfield, Fresno and Merced, you would qualify them as "No Where".
All, great real estate for California's Homeless.

Bus them to Bakersfield and give 'em train passes so they can spread out. Somehow Gavin "he's a" Nwesome thinks it will re-vitalize a dead area.

the vast majority of the useful idiots never invested a dime in these boondoggles. they are illegal immigrants, state dependents and the dead. it's people like me that end up footing the bill. well, it's people like i used to be. during bambam's tenure in office i divested myself of almost all my assets in this benighted state. protected by a corporate cloak, i closed out every account and rid myself of many pesky investments. it cost me some, but all i have left here is a house taxed under prop 13 and a few grey market investments that even the feds could never unravel. i simply refuse to fund the idiocy of progressivism any longer and i'm not the only one. i know of over a billion dollars in assets that have been spirited out of mexifornia and that's just the small fry. even the grey marketplace is shutting down here, switching to a darker shade of grey or leaving it all to be ruined by the illegals. without silicon valley this state would wither up and die and eventually they too will get a clue and leave for greener pastures. with billions in unfunded liabilities, the state won't continue the sweetheart deals made with the tech industry and only the true believers will be left to pay for their idiocy.

the simple fact is that most of us have busted our asses to get what we have. we've scrimped and saved, often living below our means in order to grow that nest-egg. we've taken risks that left us open to ruin and spread our wealth within the community. most of us had no problem helping out the poor. they were our brothers and sisters and deserved a hand up, but then we were told that wasn't good enough. we were told we had to support the mexican poor as well (hell, we've been propping up the whole damn country for decades) and then the rest of latin america's poor and anyone else that came sneaking in the back door. enough is enough. they've stacked the deck and this old man is content to just sit back and watch the whole thing flush itself down the crapper. eventually i'll wander off... maybe tomorrow. i could sell off this house for a cool million and move anywhere i wanted, but i'm none too healthy and more than a little lazy these days and it's kinda fun to watch the mayhem.

    What $77 billion?

As of December, the projects had spent roughly $5.4 billion, and now most of the rest has been scrubbed.

Where are you getting $77 billion from?

Pelosi made the New Gov cancel to shut Cortez up. It's like Hillary and Dirty Donna Brazile robbing poor Bernie all over again!

When will the New Democrat Base get some respect from the leadership!

Flights between NorCal and SoCal are very reasonably priced

    David Burge‏ @iowahawkblog 9h9 hours ago
There are 2.24 million passenger trips between LAX and SFO every year, at an average cost of $112; a total of $250 million per year. For the price of the Cal train, you could pay for all those flights for 400 years.

    OP

Our misbegotten vanity project HS2 is about to hit the buffers - no pun intended.

"Is the HS2 rail project in trouble? There have been ongoing questions raised about whether the project can be delivered on time and within budget. And the recently-appointed HS2 chairman Sir Terry Morgan resigned from his post on Wednesday, after predicting that he would be asked to go by the Department for Transport."

If anything in this country actually goes right by being within budget and on schedule, I won't be able to stand the shock, I just know I won't!

Democrats live in the past. Frankly i did not expect this from Newsom. No doubt he will spend the money on some other boondoggle.

Outstanding reply. I feel much the same way about what I am seeing in general occurring in this nation of ours as the increasingly insane and anti-ethical Dem Party leadership takes this nation ever farther leftward. I, too, am of an age wherein it is becoming more of an interesting pantomime I'm watching rather than something that hits me viscerally. From the Cold War onward and with a lifetime of work invested in the tax base I have done my part. The rest is now up to the younger generations; and all too many of them have joined hands with the societal parasites crowd. I know which direction this nation is headed, and it's not good.

There isn't a government program I've heard of that doesn't exaggerate the benefits and down play the costs and disadvantages.

$100+ Billion/yr spent on illegals. And as more stream in, its just going to keep going up. Then when you add in breeding, crime, and each murder, go do the math. Its not hard.

How much is a citizen's life worth, killed at the hands of an illegal? A death easily prevented.

So, you know, when your own stifling bureaucracy shuts down your signature boondoggle, that the rest of the nation is taking notes. What an astonishing waste of time, effort, and consultant time that made a lot of folks rich. And isn't that the only function of liberal politics these days? Making the entitled rich? At the expense of everyone else? Why not?

If, and this is a big if, but IF the consumers in CA actually wanted a viable high speed rail option, some cool enterprising company would figure out how to build one. Of course, Musk and his "levitation tube" BS ended up demonstrating driving through a super bumpy tunnel in one of his "specially designed" X series SUVs and succeeded in making several journalists sick in the attempt. He did, a mile?

Every time I see things like this, all I can think of is who is the benefactor of the train deal? A government granted monopoly or a stagnant government paper weight. These things generally end up being the same over time.
