Germany's official think tank recommends that...

Berlin takes the military leadership of both the EU and NATO.

Chancellor Merkel and Macron have already met to discuss governing the EU together.

Taking due note of President Trump’s position (limiting US influence within the Transatlantic Alliance), the government’s experts consider that there is an opportunity for Berlin to become the controlling mind of NATO in its counter-Russia operations.
This opportunity has arisen because Germany has made massive investments in developing its army and creating multinational forces.

Germany has to show a “determined leadership” of NATO and lead this military alliance of the “West” towards adopting a new strategic concept. This is what the advisers to the German Government and experts in foreign policy are asking for.
    ....
This request for a stronger German leadership of NATO came about after Russia recaptured Crimea. That move led Berlin to a strategic reorientation of its global policy.
    .....
When Moscow insists on operating “independently” in terms of foreign policy, the White Book indicates that this is a “challenge for the security of our continent”.

The Bundeswehr would become “one of the most important armies on the continent”.

    ---------

72 years after the "German holocaust" here they are again in a leading role! Hard to believe! Perhaps Mrs. Merkel's gentle style has made an impression on the other EU countries. And with Trump being busy building the Mexican wall, he'll be glad not to have to bother anymore with Europe.
It's hard not to be a little bit proud of the Germans. I had already worried they might be obliterated in a few years due to the influx of millions of refugees from far away countries.

Once again they rose from the ashes and will sing...

Wonderful news. When do you foresee the US being able to withdraw the rest of our troops from Europe?

Just don't go starting any more wars please.

A new Franco-Teutonic Caliphate to replace NATO?

With the US as the external threat that binds them?

Germany is the second largest contributor to the NATO budget but NATO is useless without America. If NATO is divided and weakened, it's a strategic opportunity for Russia.

Voltairenet is a Lebanese/Syrian operated opinion website that propagates conspicary theories for instance regarding 9/11.
Its founder, Thierry Meyssan, used to be a member of the extreme left and has a very pro-Assad stance. Among other things, he has claimed that Transparency International has been infiltrated and even founded by the CIA (without him providing any evidence for his claims).
The article talks about "massive investments" but doesn't use any numbers to back that up. The Bundeswehr has invested extra money in 2016 and will do so in 2017, however, "massive" is definitely not the right word and foreign minister Gabriel has already stated that 2% of the GDP are extremely unrealistic.
So, as almost always with these websites, read what you want to read, don't do any research on your own, take the stuff at face value and believe whatever fits your narrative.

Quite apart from the fact that Germany does not aspire to become a military power again and every effort for is by 75% of the German population also rejected ... precisely because of our history ...

I always find it astonishing that those who blame us, for example, that we don't do this and that, then suddenly get upset when we do what the demanded!

    Hypocrisy in its highest form!

The fact is, however, that Germany has taken over a lot of NATO tasks from the US for at least 15 years, because the US would rather have an idiotic and criminal war in Iraq. And the fact that the US is still really fulfilling NATO's tasks is a fairy tale ... or who should be frightened by the 35,000 US soldiers in Germany, of what is only 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment and its Stryker a fighting combat unit!

Your troops are there not only as an occupational force, but also as a component of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Its European Command directs air operations in a theater spanning three continents, covering more than eight million square miles!!!
Ramstein is the US's largest military base in the world! I don't foresee them ever leaving.

Ha, are you scared of competition? It is your Government that has never stopped starting one war after the other since the end of WWII.

As Germany becomes a new state of the Empire of Islam, Germany will again become the most dangerous country of a next potential world war.

Well, it is not just the Germans who will make up the fighting army, it is a large international force. All the EU countries will be part of it. I could also well imagine that they will offer recruitment to the many young refugees, who have nothing else to do.
Yes, but Trump had no problem admonishing Merkel for owing a large sum as Germany's contribution to NATO. Typical American bully... barking before checking the facts![/quote]

WOW, I never thought of that! Didn't Mrs. Merkel once declare: "Islam belongs to Germany"?
Here is the exact quote: "Der frühere Bundespräsident Christian Wulff hat gesagt: Der Islam gehört zu Deutschland. Und das ist so. Dieser Meinung bin ich auch."

You are talking so much bullshit.

Germany become vasal state of Russia? Whats next? Japan becomes a Vasal state of Tonga?

Dude i say it to you once and hope you get it. Russia is an economic minion. A dwarf. Germany an economic hyper giant. Leader of the European Union.

Without the US to offset the growing power of China Japan could be at a big disadvantage and in time subservient to china

Is that too hard for you to imagine?

As for Germany the russians are far morte militant and willing to wage war so if the will to fight is not there you will make a lot of concessions to avoid a punch in the nose

The russians are willing to fight

I'm not so sure that Germany with a 75% liberal snowflake population can

Remember the Romans were far more wealthy and sophisticated than the barbarians who brought down the Roman Empire

We counter russians since 1900 years. Believe me, you dont understand the German - Russian relationship and you never will understand.

You have a far bigger problem. Putin admires Germany. He speaks fluent German and he does evrything he can to break the German - US alliance and forge an Axis between Berlin and Moscow.

Thanks, Sobo! I was hoping you would notice this thread and give us your opinion.
Merkel speaks fluent Russian! Unfortunately, she doesn't care for Putin, but many of the German people would rather align with Russia than being a vassal to the US. That's the impression I got by reading in a German forum.

It's only natural. Just do it without :flagus: aid; no :flagus: $, no :flagus: personnel.

Germany is better than France who would prepare to win the last war.

Shooting at American troops carries far more significant risks than shooting at German or French troops.

And our troops in Europe were always meant to be a blocking force meant to slow Russian advances until the bulk of the military is able to deploy.

Germany's GDP is $3 trillion. The USA $18 trillion. What is laughable is calling Germany "an economic hyper giant."
