You are obviously not up to date. Germany already see NATO as obsolete. Our government starts to build up paraleel structures together with France. We estimate in 5 or 10 years wont be any NATO left.

 

We have nuclear weapons. Building a nuke would take Germany a few hours at best. Its called the japan option. Or as the experts say: have a nuke and just have to assemble it.

I just did a google search asking the question of how quickly Germany could built nuclear weapons. The consensus is "months". Though it is quite possible they could construct hundreds once they got started.

What Sobo doesn't realize is that if the Germans started building nuclear weapons, then long before they got any completed every European n nation from Portugal to Russia would be swarming over their borders to stop them.

Europe and the world is not going to allow a nation that was basically the starter of two world wars killing 60 million people to suddenly build a nuclear arsenal. Another reason why Germany will never leave NATO. The world and Europe only tolerate a rearmed Germany if it is confined within the structure of NATO.

Remember the three fold purpose of NATO:
1) Keep the Russians out.
2) Keep the Americans in.
3) Keep the Germans down.
