    What do you think?
    Are there beings like ghosts?
Did you ever see one - or know someone who saw one?

I think they exist. I'm not really sure what their nature is. Psychic impressions? Maybe when very strong emotions are felt near the time of death it could leave some sort of imprint in the area. Just total speculation on my part.

I would distinguish "ghosts" from spirits though. I do believe in spiritual beings, what some would refer to as our higher selves, or other entities of a "denser" spiritual nature than our own, but I do not think you are referring to this when you are talking about ghosts.

    So it is.
I am referring to ghosts - not to spirits in your sense of the word.

When I was younger there was two occasions when I distinctly heard someone walking up my stairs. I was the only person in the house, and it wasnt just creaking. They were clomping footsteps. But when I opened the door to the stairwell no one was there.

When I was in Iraq we cleared a building where executions were carried out by the fedayeen, saddam's secret police, on a regular basis. It was dark as hell, so much that our night vision was barely getting enough light to amplify anything. I swear to god I could feel a presence there... it made my skin crawl, and I couldn't wait to get out of there. We didn't find out it was where poeple were executed until afterwards, but man, it was a disturbing feeling in there.

They say that ghosts are those that suffer traumatic experiences, and can't move on to the next world.

When I was young, I was alone in a hotel room on my mother's island of Chios which had undergone the first great massacre in history.
It was before air conditioners, and the doors on the balcony were left open at night to let in the breeze.

The room faced the sea and there was a desolate road below and I could hear people talking. It was late at night, and I knew they were speaking Greek, yet I couldn't understand a word they were saying. It could have been the original dialect, but I'm just guessing.

What struck me odd is that their voices didn't get lower as they walked past the balcony, instead they remained at the same level. I realized something was off, and thank god I didn't go out to see. Instead I said a prayer to myself when suddenly one screamed out an island expression, and then the voices stopped.

I have experienced things that were less than kosher, seen things for brief glimpses, but I don't know if I would go so far as to call them proper ghosts.

I opened this topic yesterday around the German midnight - traditionally the time of the ghosts!
    >>> Geister-Stunde = ghosts' hour! :)

That was my only encounter on the island, but I would hear stories and before electricity people never went out at night. They would call their encounters 'phantasms', and the women ghosts usually had parasols and wore the clothing worn during the time of the massacre.

There was also a well that was haunted behind a relative's house, and my mother felt something brush past her once when sitting outside at night. We were also playing games at night when we heard a noise from the well and everyone just froze. They say it's haunted by a very large black man who might have been a eunich since they were used in the harems by the Turks.

This is not the only story with a large black ghost in Greece. A mansion outside of Athens that belonged to a certain Turkish Pasha was also haunted by a large black ghost and there are stories of accidents and things that would occur to people when they lived there. Someone once said that the mansion will go down in history for its horrors.

Well when WWII broke out, that's where the Nazis had their concentration camp and that's where they tortured their captives. After the war it became an insane asylum.

I don't know if you will find anything, because the stories of the ghost were personal accounts. My grand aunt lived there, and my mother knew the owners of the mansion when she was a child, and before coming to the US. I heard quite a few stories about the ghost and the things that happened to a family who had rented the mansion before WWII.

It's strange that someone predicted it would go down in history for it's evil and then it became the headquarters of the SS in WWII. After the war it was turned into an insane asylum. Now the mansion has been restored.

    The mansion at Haidari, Greece.

I believe in ghosts as psychological phenomenon. I believe that your mind can manifest images as well as feel presences that are entirely happening inside your brain. And that doesn’t make them not exist. They do exist in a sense, as creations of your mind. In that sense they are very real and can have wry real effects on you.

Now I'm going to mention some really strange stories. My daughter lived in Westchester New York and the young people there made a habit of driving around at all hours of the night.

Well one night my granddaughter and her girl friend saw some open gates and decided to drive in. They came to a mansion and noticed a large party going on with lots of cars. After a few weeks they decided to visit the mansion again, but found nothing there except some work men. When they asked what happened to the mansion, the men said that there hasn't been a mansion there for decades.

Out of curiosity I asked if she noticed what year the cars were, but I guess she didn't because it was dark. What she did say is that when they were leaving and going through the gate, they heard a hissing sound like electricity.

Now here's one that scared the wits out of her. She was at the Catskill Mountains with her boyfriend when he became really ill. It was about a 2 hour drive back to Westchester, so she had to find a motel and get him into a bed. None of the motels had any vacant rooms, so it took a while before they could find one.

My granddaughter realized she needed some things from the car and didn't want to disturb her boy friend, so she went out alone when suddenly a hand tapped her shoulder and a man said, "can I help you"? She froze and couldn't move. Fortunately her boy friend sensed something was wrong and came out. There was no one there.

I did read once about a mafia gang killing some other gangsters at a motel in the Catskills. I have a feeling it was that motel, and like the mansion, it might not have been real when they went there. What is strange is that she said they paid the
receptionist and he took the money and there were even two men playing cards on the porch.

I think my granddaughter said they went back to see if they could find the motel and that they couldn't, but I'm not sure.

Actually, I think the ghosting or witching hour is around 3:00AM. Don't go out at 3:AM.

My mother told me that when she was young, two boys had climbed the mountain behind her home, and while they were coming down one of them fell and died. Every night people could hear his screams, and so they called the priest and he blessed the area and the screams stopped.

This is why you'll see crosses an even shrines along a road where a fatal accident occurred in Mediterranean countries - and even here in the US. It's because the place had been blessed by a priest, so that the soul will be freed from the trauma and continue on into the afterlife.

Now whether you want to believe it or not is up to you. I just think it's terrible that there are souls that are not at peace, and yet are not being blessed because it's not part of a person's religious faith.

Every place where a tragedy has taken place, and every battleground no matter where it is, should be blessed because every loving action that we give others, whether they are alive or dead, will benefit them in some way. We should never hold these things back from anyone.

-And that's my sermon for the day. :oldman:

I never understood why anywhere would need to be blessed. If there is a God I don't see why he wouldn't bless everywhere, or everywhere that needs it, without the need for a human priest.

I had a really, really, really, really strange experience back late in 1990 or late in 1991... .
where I met a guy who looked like the proverbial Pan........
in a sense.... he was probably the "ghost" of one of the Nephilim?????????

I do believe that some people are gifted with the ability to see/hear spirits. Sadly, there are many charlatans who will take money from people and provide very general information to hopefuls who wish to hear from loved ones who have died. But if you've ever had the experience of speaking with one of the gifted ones, you will believe and understand that there are spirits all around us.

Although ghosts are mentioned in the Bible, the Bible also says that such things don't exist. It all depends who who was telling the fairy tale.

Jesus and the Pharisees believed in resurrections, ghosts, angels, and spirits. The Sadducees said that such things were silly.

    Acts 23:8 (CEV) =
"The Sadducees do not believe in angels or spirits or that the dead will rise to life. But the Pharisees believe in all of these,"

In Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 (CEV) = "5 We know that we will die, but the dead don’t know a thing. Nothing good will happen to them—they are gone and forgotten. 6 Their loves, their hates, and their jealous feelings have all disappeared with them. They will never again take part in anything that happens on this earth."

In Sirach 10:11 (CEB) = "When people are dead, they inherit maggots, vermin, and worms."

In Wisdom 17:4 (CEB) = "They hid themselves in the deepest corners of their houses, but couldn’t escape from their fears. Even there they heard all around them sounds that terrified them. Mournful ghosts with gloomy faces appeared to them."

So, if you believe in resurrections, ghosts, angels, and spirits you are in the Pharisee camp. If not, then you are like the Sadducees. If ghosts were real wouldn't the world be overflowing with them? Imagine going to the toilet and seeing scary ghosts with mournful faces.
