And at least as many passengers with guns too, unless the plane was protected by a 'no guns' sign. Not that I think guns should becarried on planes... schools arent at risk of explosive decompression...

Guess people forget the 9/11 hijackers didn't use guns.

I'm not a "gun grabber". We have enough gun control laws. But this incident is not an argument in favor of more armed personnel on school grounds.

Prison employees inside the prison also do not carry firearms.

The girl sounds like she is in very poor shape. It also appears that she was the main target.

But luckily the school resource officer was nearby and also happened to be a SWAT team member.

Would be nice to keep the gun out of the hands in the first place so we don't have to rely on luck to keep the body count low.

Better 'luck' than worthless political platitudes. Guns are everywhere and no laws will change that without appropriately applied manpower, which we cant afford, and likely wouldn't tolerate anyway.

Face it. You can ban em all, but they arent going anywhere except where their owners take them.

If the security officer had not shot him do you think he potentially could have killed someone? If yes then security officer is a hero.

And why would you think a security officer good people that are called rent-a-cops are more qualified than anyone else to have a gun?

Easy, just make it illegal for them to have one. You say there are already laws covering this, well hell!

That's right. A trained professional who gets recertified and ongoing training.

Not some guy who buys a gun at a gun show and thinks himself a vigalante because he reads gun blogs.

After he shot the person he was trying to shoot. It is not clear he was ever trying to shoot anyone else.

If only somebody who was more educated and was already in the classrooms could carry guns, but it's too bad teachers can't be trained and carry concealed. Enough teachers would volunteer to provide an effective deterrent .

How many times do we have to explain that being a police officer doesn't mean you're good with a gun?

Do you understand the word "volunteer"? Where is anyone wanting to FORCE teachers to carry?

Well when I got my level 3 Commission card to do armed security it was pretty much the same thing you do for concealed carry license that's it. So a teacher with a CHL would be just fine with the same amount of training a security guard has

They'd definitely be more qualified than a Broward County police officer.

Well there's a whole movement now afoot to remove all SROs from schools because they feel it is not "welcoming" to minority students who will feel like they are in prison.

one good guy shoots a bad guy...and how many thousands have died where there was no good guy with a gun despite there being millions of guns around in the hands of "good guys"? Delusional to think guns prevent gun deaths.
