Thanks for the update, I heard that the 2nd shot usually gives stronger side effects.

If it were for Trump and his policies, people like Sahin and his wife would have never gotten a chance. But, tell us exactly how US warp speed policies has sped up vaccine development in Germany? Inquiring minds would like to know. Be specific.

3 life saving vaccines were developed in less than a year under Trump's operation warp speed created with the sole goal of [ahem] speeding up the development of vaccines to warp speed. Duh

Zero vaccines had ever been developed faster than in 8-10 years before Trump's operation warp speed was launched.

Please Quantum, explain these irrefutable facts in light of your denial of the effect of Trump's amazing operation warp speed on the ability to save your life today and not in 2029.

If you're lucky you become the Rooster, having the power to leap up and knock multiple foes unconscious with your bony ankles and possessing the Magical Crow which disables your opponents with preternatural wakefulness leaving them unable to concentrate on any one thing so alert are they to all their surroundings

What you call a check mate, is pure fantasy.
Neither bioNtech or Pfizer were part of Warp Speed. Not 1 penny of US Federal Funding went to Germany to develop that vaccine. Germany invested 340 million Euro into bioNtech.

Desperate Dotard, even tried to buy one of those German jewels, curevac.
Merkel said know and Germany bought 300 million Euros worth of that company, to block any take over.

Be grateful for the live saving German initiatives, the Merkel vaccines.

Well, you still have to wear a mask and social distance with the magic shot, so your superhero abilities will be limited to 10 bad guys at once.

As I expected, no specifics, just mindless Trump praise. Let me ask you this: If Hillary had been in office instead of Trump, would it have taken 10 years for BioNTech to develop the vaccine?

mRNA research in Germany started around 10 years ago. Target are various cancers and diseases like HIV.
They had progressed to phase 1 and 2 testing when Covid hit.
The tech was handily available, so they stopped all other programs and put everybody to work on C19, In January 2020 ( bioNtech and curevac ). Once they understood how the virus attaches, they were able to design the mRNA.
BioNtech took the straight approach, ignoring the cooling need of -70C, in order to get its vaccine out.
Curevac solved the storage temp challenge of its mRNA first before it started its Phase 3 test.
Its vaccine can be stored long term at 4C. Which is a real game changer.
BioNtech will get its 2.0, a 4C mRNA, out in the middle of 21

Why did it go so fast this time.
Money. The pandemic shut the bean counters up. It did not matter what it costs. They did not have to ask for a few millions here or there from their sponsors or investors.
Suddenly there were hundreds of millions available.

All the more reason as to why I've changed my opinion on the size/scope of government question. The very fact that people, and by that I mean certain people, HAVE TO be told to wear a mask in the middle of a raging global pandemic proves that concept of limited government is an unsustainable fantasy. If anything we need more government and it needs to have more power, such as the ability to tax anti-maskers and issue interstate travel bans to non-compliance states like Florida. If the fallout of this means we one day have to see that power abused then so be it, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Oh, he did absolutely botch the China travel restrictions. They were more porous than a Swiss cheese, unlike what was done in countries like New Zealand, Singapore, and Uruguay that had real and tight travel BANS, not merely porous restrictions.

As for the Warp Speed initiative, sure. That one was good.

Why in the hell should he thank president Trump for the Pfizer shot, given that Pfizer researched, developed, produced, and even distributed their shot 100% outside of and independent from the Warp Speed initiative? Had the poster received the Moderna/NIH shot you'd have had a point.

But see, of the 9 vaccines currently approved in various or at least one country, 7 of them have nothing to do with the Warp Speed initiative or Trump. (By the way, it's FORMER President Trump, for your information).

    Pfizer/BioNTech (German-American) - not Warp Speed
Sputinik V (Russian) - not Warp Speed
    CoronaVac Sinovac/Butantan (Chinese-Brazilian) - not Warp Speed
Sinopharm Beijing (Chinese) - not Warp Speed
Cansino (Chinese) - not Warp Speed
Vector (Russian) - not Warp Speed
Covaxin Bharat Biotech (Indian) - not Warp Speed
    Moderna/NIH (American) - Warp Speed
Oxford/AstraZeneca (British) - Warp Speed (and lousy)

There are 4 more that are poised to get approved somewhere:

Johnson and Johnson/Janssen (American) - Warp Speed
Novavax (American) - only partially propped up by Warp Speed, *after* the R&D phase
    Curevac/GSK (German/British) - not Warp Speed
Sinopharm Wuhan (Chinese) - not Warp Speek

So, we'll get most likely 13 main vaccines approved around the world. Of which, 4 with Warp Speed ties (one of them, barely; another one of them, pretty lousy; only two of the four are actually good and attributable to Warp Speed in a significant way), and 9 without.

While Warp Speed was good, you may want to realize that it is far from the only initiative that generated fast/efficacious Covid-19 vaccines. Their only crown jewel is the Moderna/NIH. All other top vaccines in the world currently in use that are any good, were developed and commercialized outside of the Warp Speed initiative.

Don't read me wrong, I approve of the initiative and have defended it here many times. But let's just not over-hype it. While good, it wasn't at all the only game in town.

By the way, the vaccine that in my opinion has the potential to be the best in the world and the most polivalent therefore the best weapon for the endemic phase of this disease, is the Curevac/GSK which again, has nothing to do with the Warp Speed Initiative.

Got the Second Pfizer Poke about an Hour ago and getting ready to sit down with a Mac and Jack and watch Borat 2. I'll see how bad the side effects are after this Second Dose, since they say that's the one that gets ya. I haven't been Sick with anything for so many years that I've almost forgotten what it's like to have a sick with a Fever, so might be an interesting Night.

Side effects are usually not immediate but peak (then fade) at 24 (48) hours. But they are, by no means, obligatory. Many people don't have any.

Woke up about an hour ago at 6am and feeling FRESH! as a Daisy, Not a single side effect yet. Hope this stuff is working, they said it's normal to feel ill, because that's your body's way of fighting the perceived infection and producing Antibodies. So! far this has been Peachy Pie and the cute little Nurse that gave me my Shot commented about how Big and Muscular my Arms were, before she stuck it in. I might go back for a Third shot and request her 8)

Update: Got my second shot yesterday in the afternoon. Didn't sleep well last night and my stomach feels a little unsettled. We'll see how today progresses. I definitely feel a stronger reaction that after the first shot. Or maybe it is all imagined.....

    I am vaccinated, what next?

I received my second vaccination on the 23rd, I was given the Moderna vaccine. When your group is called, you really should take the vaccine. Take what ever vaccine is available!

If you already got your COVID-19 vaccine, are you wondering when the immunity kicks in and how long it lasts? Can you still catch COVID-19 and can you infect others? How long do you need to take precautions after vaccination? WHO’s Dr Kate O’ Brien answers one Science in 5.

Okay, almost 2 days after the second dose, I didn't really have much of side effects, except a little unsettled stomach the first night. Went to work and was productive without problems, not even tiredness.

Borat, maybe you have me on Ignore, but have you missed this, on post #39?

    Pfizer/BioNTech (German-American) - not Warp Speed
Sputinik V (Russian) - not Warp Speed
    CoronaVac Sinovac/Butantan (Chinese-Brazilian) - not Warp Speed
Sinopharm Beijing (Chinese) - not Warp Speed
Cansino (Chinese) - not Warp Speed
Vector (Russian) - not Warp Speed
Covaxin Bharat Biotech (Indian) - not Warp Speed
    Moderna/NIH (American) - Warp Speed
Oxford/AstraZeneca (British) - Warp Speed (and lousy)
Johnson and Johnson/Janssen (American) - Warp Speed
Novavax (American) - only partially propped up by Warp Speed, *after* the R&D phase
    Curevac/GSK (German/British) - not Warp Speed
Sinopharm Wuhan (Chinese) - not Warp Speek

So, of the 13 main Covid-19 vaccines approved around the world or about to be approved, 4 have Warp Speed ties (one of them, Novavax, just partially; another one of them, Oxford/AstraZenece, is a pretty lousy vaccine when compared to the top performers (the three with above 90% efficacy are Pfizer, Moderna, and Sputinik V); only two of the four (Moderna and Johnson & Johnson) are actually good and attributable to Warp Speed in a significant way), and 9 have NO WARP SPEED TIES WHATSOEVER.

    So, come again?

By the way the previous record was 4 years (mumps), not 8 to 10 as you said.

Again, I fully support Warp Speed and praise the former president for it, but let's not attribute to it, stuff it didn't do.

The two fastest Covid-19 vaccines in the world from development to approval, the Pfizer/BioNTech and the Gamaleya/SputinikV, had strictly NOTHING to do with Warp Speed, and would have existed (and just as fast) if Warp Speed had never existed. Seven others had nothing to do with it, either.

But sure, whoever gets the Moderna vaccine does have Warp Speed to thank (I got the Pfizer). Without Warp Speed, however, the person would just be getting a different vaccine, because there are freaking NINE others that got developed, approved, and marketed just fine without Warp Speed.
