    There you have it.

    Democrats caused the shut down.

As expected, they are already blaming the Republicans.

And just as I talked about in this post here...

    http://politicalforum.com/index.php...aney-amid-‘schumer-shutdown’-briefing.524104/

...the Dems are already pointing at the Republican micro-majority as the location to lay blame.

Dems and their laptop media will no doubt seek to capitalize on voter ignorance during this weekends media cycle.

So just to help educate those here who do not already know.

There are 100 seats in the US Senate.

Republicans hold 51 of them, Democrats hold 47, and there are 2 indies that are basically Democrats so its basically a 51-49 split.

It takes a majority of those who are there to vote.

And since everybody is going to show up, it means 60 votes are needed to pass something in the US Senate.

So Republicans could not pass anything without Democrat support and that's what they needed to fund the government.

This shutdown is without any doubt, the fault of the Democrats.

Anybody who says or thinks otherwise is either ignorant of civics or just living in a hyper-partisan delusion.

But isn't America about this - small government? :aww:

So, reducing US government must be a good thing, right?

Theoretically a prolonged shutdown would illustrate just how little we need to federal government.

However in practice the powers at be intentionally design it to do as much optical damage as possible.

First time in US history that a shutdown occurred while a single party controlled the house, the Senate, and the presidency.

And Trump said, in 2013, that a shutdown occurs when the president us bad at his job.

    Trump caused this shutdown.

He said he would sign any bipartisan proposal that was brought to him. The Senate brought a bipartisan proposal and he killed it. He got close with Shumer on the last day and then he let Kelly kill it.

You can't blame "the Democrats" for the lack of an agreement. You are right about the 60 votes, but all that means is that the Republicans should have put something on the table that would have won votes from the Democrats.

Lol "micro-majority". Trying to pretend republicans couldn't have done this on their own if they wanted.

All three parties are at fault with this shutdown; The Trumpocity, Democrats, Republicans, a pox on all their houses.

A proposal for DACA and security. Dems insist on tacking on DACA to a budget bill. This is the Schumer Shutdown. Illegals first.

Daca dosn't expire for several months. The Democrats have shown they hold illegal aliens above America's citizens.

Congress needs to set up a system that provides for essential functions to be paid especially active duty military even if the government is in shut down. I do not know at this time if my military retirement pay or VA payments are affected by this shutdown. I am fortunate that I have about a years worth of funds to cover those payments but anyone living hand to mouth can be scrudded.

Military is an essential service and even certain civilian jobs that are essential services you do not F... with them.

Will POTUS and Congress get their pay? Yes I know the Trumpocity does not need his.

The finger, one MIDDLE finger points at both parties Ckngress and the POTUS.

Several months? I suppose march is slightly more than one month away, so I suppose "seceral" is technically correct.

Guess the government could have been funded anyway....the point remains, illegal aliens who have violated American sovereignty are deemed more important than paying our military that protect our "legal" American citizens. It is treasonous on the part of the Democrat Party. Shumers shutdown is immoral!

Trump's wall and Chucky Cheeze's DACA-lites should not be mixed in with this bill.

I stopped watching news channels late last night and am enjoying The Rifleman on AMC in black and white so I know it is good TV from when I was a kid.

Maybe we can reduce the size of government so there will not be quite so many on the dole that cry when it fails. Many American citizens do not have pensions but they have to pay for yours. I respect your service but I do not respect "entitlements".

No border enforcement....no amnesty for those that violate American Sovereingty. Isn't that what your service was about??? Upholding American sovereignty? It was a Shumer shutdown! If we don't get serious, there will be a DACA II in another decade and America will be ruled by invaders.

The wall makes a statement "we have laws and that is what governs America.....we won't tolerate the influx of invaders any longer". When parents sneak their kids into Disneyland without tickets they are booted and their children as well. Same applies here. The parents are responsible for any disappointments and that message has to be sent loud and clear. There are millions of border jumpers waiting to hear our response! We are going to renegotiate Nafta and yes Mexico will pay for it, though possibly indirectly.

“The public sees Republicans as the anti-government party. That idea is deeply imbedded.”

April Ponnuru is senior adviser at the Conservative Reform Network.

“The shutdown rests at the feet of the GOP and it appears a majority of Americans agree”
Michael Steele is a former chairperson of the Republican National Committee.

    https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2018/01/20/who-will-america-blame-216487

Trump’s pattern of lying, petty invective, reneging on promises, indifference to facts, and feeble approval from the American public has rendered him impotent in making deals.

How can a bipartisan deal be struck when his own party leadership cannot figure out what he wants?

How did Republicans, in control of the presidency and both houses of congress, manage to befoul themselves? They made the mistake of trusting the Trump:

That is what is called compromise. If that is what it takes to get the votes to avoid a shutdown, maybe the Republicans should have presented it.
Oh wait, they did - in a bipartisan proposal to Trump. But he killed it.
    Trump Shutdown.
