I’m pretty sure his record will stand as well. Did you know Secretariat's actual heart was twice the size of a normal horse?

    A Quote About Big Red:

"You want to know who Secretariat is in human terms? Just imagine the greatest athlete in the world. The greatest. Now make him six-foot-three, the perfect height. Make him real intelligent and kind. And on top of that, make him the best-lookin' guy ever to come down the pike. He was all those things as a horse."

I've read that. Big Red was definitely a freak of nature.

As you can imagine we're quite proud of Secretariat here in Virginia. Kentucky may be the thoroughbred capital of America, if not the world, but the greatest horse that ever lived was born in the Old Dominion.

You know what’s crazy, Sham the other horse he ran neck and neck with until he blew him out of the Belmont, had a 18 lbs heart as well. The irony is, that Secretariat Never sired any champions, and Sham did.

    Wow - I didn't know that.

Sham was a heckuva horse. If he hadn't had the misfortune of running up against Secretariat he probably would have won a Triple Crown himself.

I'll tell ya another horse who I thought should have won a Triple Crown - Real Quiet. A better jockey would have brought him and the Triple Crown home at the Belmont. I'm still pissed at Kent Desormeaux for that.

Yep, he lost the Belmont by literally 4 inches. I’m pretty sure if he would have been on the bedside coming around into the stretch, he probably could have won it.
