It's a combination of mental illness, drug addiction, and distribution of wealth, and they overlap quite a bit.

Texas has one of the lowest individual tax burdens in the country. We still have better than average roads and infrastructure as well as fiscal health.

Yes. I have to step over the homeless and their feces here in Florida, but I don't gush about it all day long like some others do about California and they don't even live there.

    Well said.

The homeless are just cannon fodder for political arguments anymore. Not that they never were before, but now the only time I see homelessness mentioned is when you're trying to blame it on a political party.

But as corporations are starting to move to Texas, someone is going to have to pay for the infrastructure needed for those new entities to move there. And since they dont pay corporate tax, where is the state going to get the funds to build/maintian the new, and existing infrastructure ?

They get it from property tax, sales taxes. franchise tax, and federal money (which they rely on heavily). And they sell bonds, which are paid back from general funds. Its not horribly different from other States.

Florida (maybe other States too) used to (not sure if we still do) let private companies handle road projects and then let them collect tolls to recoup the cost.

"Classing it up" = fleeing broken progressive states...

And bringing their failed progressive ideologies with them.

The numbers show Texas has benefitted from it big time. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

    Thanks PL

But one has to ask….who pays the property tax, the sales and franchise taxes ? Its the consumer.

And you are correct that its not much different from other states as to how they are paid from “general funds”, yet those “general funds” are usually funded by consumption and use taxes, which are paid by the citizenry.

Its not just Texas, but many other states that are completely shifting the tax burden to the consumer.

The money has to come from somewhere, and its always the citizens who pays in one form or another. I pay nearly $8000 in property tax for my house (in Florida), and many of my neighbors pay a lot more, because they were not able to transfer (use 'portability') from old FL residence to the current one. First time buyers and Out-Of-Staters pay the most.

And simply not wanting to work. I'm getting new carpet in my bedrooms and I've had to help the installer because he can't find anyone to work. My new house is delayed and new shop is late because of the same reason.

As do I in Iowa. But thats the rub. Im advocating for corporations to pay an equal share, for the use of infrastructure and services that they use more of than the individual does. Why do I as a citizen have to subsidize Wells Fargo, when I dont work there, or use their services. And to take it a step further, why are they allowed to use them for free, and not reimburse me and mine for the services I’m paying for ? If my tax dollars pay for that infrastructure and services, shouldn’t I be compensated for those services the same as they are when I use theirs ?

I don't either. I've never wanted to work but I do enjoy having a roof over my head. Another reason for the homeless problem is rediculous housing prices. Libs have driven up the cost of living in their great cities then taken that money, moved to cheaper places to live, then driven up the prices there. It's like a cancer.

We aren't ever going to do anything about it if you can't get past blaming libs for it.

I know plenty of conservatives who have bought up properties and are charging more for rent than their mortgage payments.

That was more of a joke actually refering to WhoDatPhan78 post on page one. But it actually does have a lot to do with flippers and cash rich people coming in from Cali. I expect that to change now that the flpping business is going down due to high mortgage rates.

You're going to need to source that "Benefit".

So far, what has happened is that corporations fleeing progressive un-friendly business states have benefited Texas while the control is still largely Republican. You don't ask yourself WHY they are moving to Texas?

The left is running business and people out of progressive states:

And replacing them with immigrants and illegal aliens:

This is what happens when people don't look at government as if its a nanny state.

There's no individual income tax either. Businesses pay property and sales tax just like the rest of us. The state has a budget surplus in excess of $30 billion as well as a rainy day fund.

True, but there's no income tax, and houses are less expensive.
