So...you agree that being armed in that situation, while not a guaranteed safety, is a better option than not being armed in that situation?

Sure. Yet I have never carried a weapon except when I was a soldier.

Why would you disarm yourself now, after having been a soldier?

Because I have no need to carry a firearm I have zero fear of dying.

    That is your choice.
You don't care if others carry firearms do you?

Interesting. And you have zero inclination to defend your children or grandchildren?

Which is perfectly fine. As you yourself said, if you choose to go out unarmed then that's the risk you take. I don't always carry, I actually rarely do unless I'm traveling somewhere alone in remote places around here or if I have to go to a particularly questionable part of town known for 99% of all the crime in this area.

I'm struggling to understand exactly what it is you are arguing against here.

My children have their own weapons and they make that choice. I also showed them how to defend themselves without weapons also. I have no grandkids.

Do you have a problem with me carrying arms?

Do I have to be arguing against something?
I used to travel to the back streets and alleyways from Wash DC to Cancun Mexico and never had any troubles when scoring drugs, prostitutes or just getting drunk. I don't understand your fears.

Having been attacked at gunpoint before is where my fear comes from. As well as seeing someone get their head blown off while walking the streets of Baltimore decades ago.

So you don't feel the need to carry a gun, others feel they need to carry a gun. They are not bothering you, you are not bothering him.

    End of story?

Sounds like he's saying that anyone can carry whatever they wish. Very refreshing.

I had a group of six officers pull and cockadoodledo their 357's at me because they thought I was someone they were after and had I been armed I would be dead.

    Refreshing indeed.

I'm just sort of trying to figure out exactly what the last page and a half of posts is supposed to be about....

Some folks prefer to carry, some folks prefer not to carry. Neither side cares what the other chooses to do....It's a pretty cut and dry discussion unless I'm missing something...

Like with religion, anyone not believing as you is an infidel and only worthy of being demonized because they are responsible for the world’s woes. I think people that get wrapped up in trying to proselytize others are insecure in their own positions as if some one with a different belief is somehow a threat to them.
I applaud those that wish to avail themselves of their right to carry or not to carry... makes no difference to me... and I train those that seek firearms training (I teach), just as I would do for those seeking training in martial arts (I teach that as well). I don’t preach and I ignore being preached to about my religious, political, and my Constitutional views. I long ago passed caring what people think of me. If there is anything I might preach, it is a message of finding your true self and then live that whatever it is.
I am permitted for 40 states and am almost always carrying when out and about, except if I figure to consume alcohol. But, virtually no one, not even close friends or family would know... concealed you know.

We're looking for examples of Democrats making it easier for people to defend themselves.

I will freely admit, having a gun isn't much defense against someone else with a gun. That said, a gun is the best means of self defense against someone without a gun. It's also one of the few means of effective self defense that can be a "hold-off" weapon. I can hold a burglar at gunpoint across the house. Can't do that with a knife or a baseball bat.
