Oh, I see. Your fearful prophesy that Americans won't give up their guns had nothing to do with this thread then. Nice that you are big enough to admit this.

Yes, this is true. There is no denying that the NRA myths find a very gullible and receptive ear in this country.

Really? So you're saying that you are posting something irrelevant to this thread for the purposes of catching the eye of imagined members OUTSIDE of this thread? Really?

    Try again.

The NRA is only a small segment of gun owners, despite your attributing 'boogey-man' status to them

I was referencing the "myths" and not the gun owners, friend. Try to keep up.

Americans will not give up their guns

And you replied'No one is asking you to,friend'

if you wanted to keep it within the confines of the thred, you should have said 'no one HERE is asking you to'.

Is there some mental defect in gun haters that makes them miss points?

Agreed - even the myths that make no logical sense have a stung almost faith based following to the point it is considered sacrilege to challenge them in any way

Rare or not it is an extreme tragedy each and every one Comparing gun deaths (which are only a proportion of accidents) with bicycle deaths and saying "look guns cause less" is a complete and utter furphy because you should not be accepting THAT level of incident either
    http://www.jstor.org/pss/1602736

My question is Why are you accepting preventable deaths and injuries for your children?"

Because,it's an inevitable fact of life, no matter how careful you are, bad things happen to good people...

And again, the NRA have no 'myths'

This is textbook fear mongering. There are so few accidental deaths and injuries to children from firearms that it is a statistical fluke when it happens.

The toy analogy is silly, firearms are not marketed towards children. They cannot purchase them.

Then the bit about about about responsible gun owners is especially amusing.

Any one care to figure out the percentage of those 800ish firearms accidents to the number of gun owning American households? It is somewhere around one 100th of one percent. So the argument is based on astronomical small fugues l.

I will in another thread - the topic of THIS thread is the unacceptably high death and injury rate to children - or do you accept this?

Do gun injury and deaths represent a preventable cause of child injury and harm?

If the answer is yes then it should be re-examined

Are there any Americans comfortable with this statistic?

How about we look also at the non physical injuries

    Your point?

More children die in bicycle accidents.

Why are you not up in arms about that?

I am - all preventable causes of injury should be addressed

The point here is preventable and my point is how the Americans react to the mention of guns

You cannot mention it in relation to accidental deaths because it has become entangled with the myth of "my cold dead hands"

    This is classic fear mongering.

Because for children under 18 the accidental death rate is like less than 150 every year. When you start talking about 'children' older than 13, then your really taking about young criminals doing something illegal with guns rather than playing with a gun.

I doubt you even know what is the death rate.

Thank-you for making my point for me

And this is where Americans self censor - because it is all tied up with "met cold dead hands" they will not discuss this the same way they would say, bike helmets

Wouldn't you say that someone adamantly advocating strong limits on guns on the grounds of a nearly insignificant statistic about children's deaths, while completely disregarding more significant statistics about equally preventable bicycle deaths, is probably just pushing an emotional agenda and really doesn't care about the logic of any argument?
