'Stand your ground' law protects shooter
in deadly fight over parking space: sheriff

Surveillance video obtained by The Post shows McGlockton walking up to Michael Drejka, 47, who was arguing with McGlockton’s girlfriend, Britany Jacobs, 24, over a handicapped parking spot at the Circle A Food store on Sunset Point Road in Clearwater on Thursday.

Detectives from the sheriff’s office said Jacobs had parked her 2016 Chrysler 2000 in a handicapped spot without a permit, leading to the argument with Drejka that prompted a witness to alert a clerk inside.

That’s when McGlockton, who is black, exited the store and approached Drejka, shoving him violently to the ground with both hands, surveillance video shows. While still on the ground, Drejka, who is white, then pulled out a gun and shot McGlockton, firing a single round that struck him in the chest, deputies said.

So, anyone bothered by this case of, Stand Your Ground?

Hell no! There was no persistent attack. The shooter was looking for an excuse. The other guy was zero threat.

I firmly believe whatever prosecutor is next in line will prosecute. This sheriff should be run out of town.

reasonable fear for his life is there....
he's outnumbered (I've seen some of them girlfriends stomp some ass).
he doesn't know if there's a gun under her seat. or in the small of his back.
he's very likely injured and dazed and unable to effectively retreat, and therefore extremely vulnerable to additional, potentially fatal attacks.
the assailant has already exhibited a willingness to initiate and inflict great bodily harm, and there's no way to predict his next move.

what if the violent now-room-temperature assailant shoved an 80 year old asthmatic woman like that and left her injured and vulnerable to additional attacks? okay if she shoots?

First of all if if not for the race baiting way Google framed this article it would not even be posted here for discussion and liberal outrage/pontification. The facts are the man who was shot, violently launched a unprovoked blind side attack pushing an older and probably handicapped man to the ground in a violent manner that could easily have caused a concussion or worse. Use of a firearm is an appropriate response to such a violent attack. Pepper spray has its place, but it some conditions does not present the best option. It does not work well in a heavy wind and may not work well when firing a canister at an upward angle from the ground. Also the shooter had no way to know what weapons the man who just attacked him was armed with. Why pull out pepper spray only to find your attacker is producing a gun? He took the best option for defense. For you libs that disagree I hope you get to experience a violent street attack and see how you like the Monday morning quarterbacking. It is hard to be cooly analytical when you are being attacked. It would be interesting to see more info on McGlockton's previous Aggravated Battery arrest but I am thinking the specifics will not be reported by the media. As a final comment comments about the shooter "looking for an excuse" are simply ignorant unless one is a mindreader. Now -- so I will not be disappointed, can a resident lib bring Trump into this discussion?

Yep, it was an act of violence towards someone and the response was justified.

It was assault and the man was correct to defend himself.

There is no justification for shoving people to the ground unprovoked.

There was no justification for the shove but a shove isn't justification for deadly force either. Deadly force is only acceptable when in reasonable fear of your life.

    The shooter was wrong.

The attack didn't persist and therefore the threat wasn't there.

Not justified, in my opinion. If the guy had pressed the attack, it would have been justified, but he wasn't doing that.

a good rule of thumb in Concealed Carry America...if you're not ready to die, don't violently blindside
    someone.

The fact that there are seconds between the shove and the shot where the man who shoved him is just standing there and almost appears to be turning away. Oh and apparently parking lot commando has threatened people before. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ta...handicap-parking-space_170174041?template=amp

Sorry but I wouldn't convict him on this.

This thug won't be shoving any other people to the ground anymore.

That's a good thing for the planet.

Anyone who is violently knocked to the pavement and is not as a result in fear for their life is a moron.

the average concealed/open carrier who's been violently blindsided and knocked on their ass isn't likely to have the presence of mind to be casually ticking boxes on a mental check list. Responding to a violent attack doesn't follow a script...it's not like in the movies. it's often a combination of shock, abject terror, a flood of adrenaline that can affect vision, judgement, breathing, heart rate, and even make arms and legs feel rubbery, and stress that accompanies decisions that can either mean going home to your family, going to the morgue, or going to prison.

As Moi viewed the video, the shove was more than a shove
because it seems the victim's feet leave the ground a moment before he comes crashing down.
Was he "dazed" a moment to then see a large man who shoved him facing him.
Was the man standing yelling too?
Yes to fearing for his life. The man who shoved him is still standing there, facing him.
@BobbyRam those few seconds were seconds of being "dazed".

    No foul.
    No crime.
    He stood his ground.
Hope they don't "get him" for concealed carry without a permit or some similar wus prosecution.

    Yes, he died.
Shot in the chest, he went inside the store and died.

That he got inside the store is a reminder,
use a .45 caliber and stop them where they stand.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moro_Rebellion
In the Moro Rebellion, Moro Muslim Juramentados in suicide attacks continued to charge against American soldiers even after being shot. Panglima Hassan in the Hassan uprising was shot dozens of times before he went down. As a result, Americans elected to phase out revolvers with .38 caliber ammunition in favor of Colt .45 revolvers to continue their fight against the Moros

As a wheelchair-bound handicapped person, I’m finding it very hard not to approve of this shooting.

Keep your ass out of handicap spots if it doesn’t belong there!

How did you know he wasn't going to continue maybe with his girl joining in, he was slammed into the ground and under threat, that is all that was needed and the sheriff did the right thing and followed the law.

Hold on, you're saying people in this situation don't have the presence of mind to judge whether or not to use deadly force? If that's the case then you shouldn't own a gun let alone be permitted to carry one in self defense. I shoot. I've had to consider using my gun in self defense, if you dont have the presence of mind to not only know whether you should shoot someone, but whether there is someone standing behind them(bullets dont stop just because they hit people)then you shouldn't be handling guns son.
