So what? Almost all of the signers were Christian, the Declaration mentioned God 4 times, and the Constitution was predicated on the Declaration. Knowing this, you believe these men wrote the document secretly thinking “man, I sure hope a non-Christian group gains control of society someday and makes two guys getting married equally valid as my own child-rearing marriage” ?

There seems to be only two rational ways of anaylzing this. Either they wrote this document secretly hoping that someday things that would have been against every societal and religious norm in their existence would become acceptable, or you are wrong about their intention completely. The latter is a lot easier to believe.

 

Who cares what the founders thought?

 

Maybe when they meant something completely different when they wrote that proclamation. When the very first Congress sat down and decided who they wanted to be American, they explicitly stated white men of good moral character.

With the kind of society they had back then, based on strong Christian and European norms, it’s possible that our current society would have been outside of their imagination completely. That they didn’t explicitly say “don’t do this” doesn’t automatically mean they were accepting of it. They clearly wanted a society in which moral people were constantly trying to improve themselves. It wasn’t an endorsement of a degenerate race to the bottom, which is what we have now.

And they may have been flawed, but they were much better than today’s American.

 

I honestly wonder how much of this is being done just to spite white people. They correctly identified science fiction fans and comic book fans as historically white groups, so they need to deconstruct and substitute their own ideology,



Whites are not allowed to have anything to themselves. Their countries, women, culture etc belong to everyone.

 

What you think they thought, and what I think they thought is irrelevant. All the is relevant is the words they scratched onto that parchment with a quill.

It is no surprise that an authoritarian would view the Constitution as the citizens' permission slip.

Their intentions mattered to people who believe the country has gone off course from what it was designed to follow. They don’t matter to you, because your vision of America and connection to it did not really begin until 50 years ago.

Has nothing to do with anyone being "progressive". Anyone who is an adult should have no issue with what is in a MOVIE. You do realize it's a MOVIE, right? And by movie I mean it's not a documentary. It's a MOVIE. The people in the movie are pretending...no really they are. What they do in movies like this isn't real. True story.

 

I think you have it wrong. Again. You see, what matters is the actual words those slaveholding gentlemen actually wrote on the actual parchment. The people who "believe the country has gone off course" should probably read it -- it's there for all to see on plain display at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.. I've seen it. I can tell you it really exists. I've also read it -- word-for-word -- numerous times. There is no mention of "moral character," or "Christian morality" or any of the other things you wish were there. And the 14th Amendment -- your least favorite -- was ratified 85 years into our history because we recognized that not every equally-created man was actually being treated equally. I'm sorry but Fred and Jerry buggering each other all night just down the street from your good Christian home are exactly the same as you. THE SAME AS YOU.

 

The nice thing about movies is nobody's forcing you to watch them.

Again, I find it preposterous to believe that the Founders would have wanted the kind of society we have today, regardless of the successful efforts of people like you who found ambiguities in their wording that allowed them to be reinterpreted and extended to whatever helps your agenda.

Well the movie is rated PG-13 so not too many sex scenes with interspecies beings. Maybe they can make an XXX version with greens screens, to really explore what they mean by pansexual

 

Let me try it a different way....which specific agenda in this movie do you think they are trying to 'promote'? Progressivism is an all encompassing term. I was looking for something more specific.
