When he visited a Harley-Davidson plant in Wisconsin in September, House Speaker Paul Ryan said, "Tax reform can put American manufacturers and American companies like Harley-Davidson on a much better footing to compete in the global economy and keep jobs in America."

The company is also building a new plant in Thailand. A Harley-Davidson spokesman said the Bangkok plant is "separate and unrelated" to the decision to close the Kansas City plant.

They also just bought back 15 million in shares. These companies are now taking America for a ride. Trump was right when he said to his rich buddies your gonna make a lot of money.

That sucks but the Harley's US sales have been falling for a few years now while their international demand is increasing.

If they don't sell enough bikes in the US then that means they don't need to build as many which means cutting back on US manufacturing, simple.

Why did you leave out this part:

Operations are being moved to the motorcycle manufacturer's facility in York, Pennsylvania.

I am sure the folks in Kansas City really appreciate the clarification.

Because the thread is about the closure of one site, not the closure of the company? It's quite obvious from the title

Businesses relocate to Texas all the time, why is this relocation different?

It's not a relocation. It is a reduction in number of manufacturing sites = loss of jobs

Because it is not a mere relocation

I would not consider this a relocation but more of a consolidation.

Unknowns are what is the net loss of jobs. Will the PA plant increase jobs? Somehow I think not.

Doubtful since there still is a US manufacturing plant fulfilling the US demand which as stated has diminished.

The overseas plant is apparently for making builds for the overseas market.

Brilliant. Did you say the same when many of the firearm manufacturers and those making related accessories pulled out of the gun restrictive states and relocated to those that supported their industry?

The list there is very long.

The site in York already exists hence number of sites is being reduced

Yeah, for real doe. So the jobs being lost at the KC plant will now be gained at the PA plant and since today's economy is booming under a Conservative pres like old times, those KC workers will be able to find work again.

Only in fantasy world do people think that closing one of two sites will increase total number of jobs.

Only in the Leftbubble is Pres.Trump enriching himself at Harley Davidson, or everywhere else.

Him no longer heading up his businesses have cost him money.
