    Just curious,
This upcoming election is generally a quite boring one for me, Florida.

GOP primary's likely won't have a POTUS ballot, and I have no senators up for election, so mostly its going to be "blah".

However there appears have a few candidates going after our HOR spot which is expected to be vacated. One candidate in particular seems like a swell guy, a good friend of mine went to high school with him and confirms such, he's currently a state rep but is looking at moving up in the world to house rep.

Since the holiday break I've been tossing around the idea of getting involved in the campaign, perhaps with a few $$$ but more likely with volunteering some of my time, but honestly I've never even considered this in the past and I've never really spoken to anyone directly that has worked on one. I've read a couple of blogs/articles and its a mixed bag. I guess if i'm a volunteer I can just reach out, see what they are up to and if it looks like fun keep going at it and if not I can just quit.

If it turns out to be awesome, perhaps a temporary paid position would come out of it, I work full time but I'm pretty flexible so I could make the time, financial benefits are not a priority but they are always nice :)

Anyone have advice or care to share experiences if they have any?

I’ve volunteered before. In Florida too funny enough. Can’t say it’ll hold true for everyone’s experiences, but I hope you enjoy cold calling.

so you are the person that kept calling me when I lived in florida!!

I made the mistake of donating to a campaign once by way of a personal check

for the next 2 years I got called every couple of weeks

and was sent mail that probably cost more to send than I donated

after moving, I decided I will only get involved in politics at the voting booth

I don't enjoy it to be honest, especially if there is a strict script to follow. Cold (and robo) calls are the primary reason I no longer have a land line, back in 2012 the robo calls were so frequent that I unplugged the phone out of frustration sometime in September 12' and remembered that It was unplugged in January and didn't really need the dam thing so I cancelled it. I no longer get political calls but I still get a fair number of solicitations on my cell, which are annoying as well.

Honestly if I get funneled to the cold call room i'd likely last about 1/2 a day then realize that I enjoy my real job more.

It’s not entirely unlikely. I found it boring. Mix in condo commando vibes and I didn’t bother in the next election cycle.

There’s more to be done I’m sure, but that’s all I ever did. Might help to know one of the people heading it up if you want something less tedious.

Kinda hard for me to work on anyone's campaign. I'm not a part of any party. Never even sent any money to any candidate before. So while I wish you well in your endeavors, its simply not for me. :)

I have only volunteered once back in the dark ages it seems for a campaign. At that time I was a democrat leaning toward independent. The Candidate was Ben Nighthorse Cambell. I thought at the time his staff was full of dishonest people that would say anything at all to get a vote, that bothered me but I just assumed all campaigns were like that. Ben was a good man, he won, as a democrat in a red state proving that republicans were willing to vote for an honest man, he went to Washington and was overwhelmed by the corruption of the democrat party, so he switched parties and democrats lost their minds. He fully understood just how dirty and downright evil the Clinton administration was and he could no longer support that party. He may have been one of the last men of principle to grace the hallways of congress.

Not long after that I registered as a Republican and my IQ immediately went up 70 points, try it you will like it.

Good heavens no. I'm only interested in criticizing politics, not engaging in it.

I did in the election last octobre. In my state Thüringen we had state elections and i supported AfD. Glued posters on walls, talked with people, hand out leafleats and was security at election events.

Hey I don't volunteer for anything or anyone that are looking at making a profit or an increase in income.

I thought it had potential as a learning experience if nothing else. if the candidate wins you get the self satisfaction of saying you contributed and the pleasure of defending your decision when the rep ends up groping some club chick, good times.

    Eugene McCarthy

    Dethroned LBJ in New Hampshire.
    Peace candidate when RFK refused.
The Year of the Chicago Police Riot as Hubert became the nominee.
And we ended up with NIXON.

Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic,
regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.

LBJ won an embarrassing small margin victory against McCarthy
    and withdrew from reelection.
". . If nominated I will not run
If elected I will not serve. . "
    Working memory above.

I say that was a McCarthy WIN!

That quote was from William Tecumseh Sherman. A far, far better man than LBJ any day of the week in any century

I worked on both Reagan's 2nd campaign, and Ross Perot's campaign [Bush Clinton]. Ironically, I didn't even vote for Perot. He turned out to be nuts. No advice. Just do whatever you can to help get the thug-criminal scum out of the WH.
