I've never heard a good, rational reason to oppose the wall. I've only heard childish names hurled at Trump like "buffoon".

An apt and rather generous description of Trump.

And........ the fact that there are up to 4.3 Trillion USA Petro-Dollars out there
floating around that could hit the markets within months......... (if China were to
agree to what some others have already proposed).... should also be factored into the equation.

It would be good to plan for a Mexico - USA Wall..... that could divert at least a hundred billion
of that money in such a way that was win - win - win - win - win for the USA.... for Mexico.... and for
    the whole world ideally.

It's a simple question. Has Mexico made their first payment for "the wall?" According to Trump, one of his first actions in office was going to be to force Mexico to pay for the wall.

    Cheers,

This thread died almost 20 days ago, until it was necro'd. I replied before I realized, and deleted my post.

The reply I had typed, and then deleted, was simple:

Mexicans send $23B/yr home to mexico. The cost of illegal immigration is $113B/yr. Illegal border crossings are down 67% since 2016. The argument could be made that they are paying for the wall in the form of decreased funds being sent to their economy, coupled with increased savings to the taxpayer.

Most anti-Trump people, however, will require to see a publicity photo posted on HuffPo, of a forlorn Mexican President handing smiling Trump a giant cardboard check, with "The wall" in the memo line, before they will accept it. Partisans gonna partisan.

The truth is simple: If the wall's stated purpose is successful (greatly reducing illegal immigration), then Mexico will indeed have paid for it in the form of reduced costs for US taxpayers, and reduced US dollars flowing into the Mexican economy.

But, like any investment like this, you got to get it done before you can reap the rewards of having done it. From a purely financial point of view, if the wall doesn't pay for itself, then it's not worth doing. At this point, I'm inclined to believe it's not. Simple enforcement seems to be having the desired effect.

But, i digress. To answer your simple question, no. No "payments" have been, or will be made.... because no "payments" were promised. What was promised was that the wall will be built, and that Mexico will pay for it.

    I think a 70% red
I think a 70% reduction in illegal immigration is a good start.

First of all, if you're going to call someone a buffoon, it would behoove you to learn how to spell the word, lest you yourself look like the buffoon. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/buffoon
Especially if you're going to go on to criticize the language of others with statements like:

Sure, you can point to the wall as a thing that hasn't happened yet, but as politicians go, Trump has done a pretty good job of keeping his campaign promises. His performance in this regard has been put into picture format, and since words aren't your strong suit, let's use that.

From sources way more partial in favor of Obama than Trump:
    Trump.PNG
    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/trumpometer/

    Obama.PNG
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/obama-promises/

Keep in mind that this is a comparison of the state of Trump's promises NOW (after only 6 months) to Obama's promises after 8 years.

Not. Going. To happen. Mexico won't pay a dime, Donnie will eventually waste several billion dollars on his grandiose wall, and it will be tunneled under and climbed over until it rusts away.

    So do I

But right now it has more to do with illegals choosing not to cross the border

If a mass migration began we are still not equipped to stop them
