Hawaii responds to Bennett's Obama birth records request

PHOENIX -- The state of Hawaii has responded to Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett’s request for proof that President Barack Obama was in fact born in the Aloha State.
The Hawaii attorney general’s office has reportedly told Bennett that there are steps he needs to take in order to confirm President Obama’s birth records.
Those steps include Bennett proving that he legitimately needs confirmation in order to update the records at his office.
Bennett recently said in an interview with KFYI that he had asked Hawaii to further verify the President’s birth.
Bennett said he would consider removing President Obama’s name from the ballot during this year’s presidential election if Hawaii didn’t fulfill his request.
Bennett stated that he is not a “birther,” and believes that President Obama was born in the United States.
He went on to explain that he had received about 1,200 emails from Arizona voters who are concerned about President Obama’s birth records, and felt it was his duty to follow up.
President Obama released his birth certificate last year after some people questioned whether he was actually born in Hawaii.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been investigating the President’s birth certificate since last August. Arpaio has said that his investigation is still ongoing.

This should be interesting. I wonder, if HI will give the AZ Sec of state a copy of the original BC or its microfiche image? I wonder, if it would match what the WH released?

So Bennett isn't a Birther. Not so sure about that but he has a duty to make sure things are done right. It seems to me when the SOS requests proof of something in order for him to do his job correctly, HI should comply. HI is saying the request is not legitimate and that Bennett must provide proof of legitimacy for asking a question about the legitimacy of Obama's birth. This is insane.

Have you ever went down and got an offical birth certificate? Last time I did was to get a permit to carry. They asked me questions only I would know along with checking my ID's. This coming from a person who actually knew me. POINT IS They do not give out birth certificates to just anyone who walks through the door. They make sure you are the person who belongs to the BC. If you remember when Obama released it , It had to be picked up, They do not just send it through the mail when someone request one ,especially to someone other than the person who it belongs to. If AZ needs it to put Obama on the ballot, they should request it from him, not HI. He qualified to be on the ballot last time, so what has changed. How many times must a judge throw this nonsense out before people let it go. We have much bigger problems we need to be looking at than this. I agree, this is insane.

What is the big deal about providing a legitimate birth certificate and what does Barack Obama have to hide?

Most of the liberals in this group do not practice the art of common sense.

If he were indeed born in the USA, have the hospital provide a legitimate copy of his official birth certificate and we'll be done with all the questions! Let's also see the admission records that show his mother was actually in the hospital on the day Obama has born.

I don't see what the problem is. If the Hawaii DOH has already "verified" that proven fake birth certificate that obama showed last year, then they have undoubtedly replaced the original in their vault.
We can all agree at this point that obama is the biggest fraud ever perpetuated against the US and every step should be taken to remove him from office.

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett is asking the wrong person. If he has any questions related to the eligibility of President Obama then he needs to ask Obama for a certified copy of his birth certificate. The Hawaii Dept of Health that issues these documents has no authority to release a certified copy of Obama's birth certificate to Mr Bennett.

This is no different than requesting a passport where a certified copy of one's birth certificate is submitted with the application for the passport. When the passport is issued then that certified copy is returned to the person. Of note President Obama's 2007 birth certificate (COLB), the original issued by the Hawaii Dept of Health, is all that needs to be submitted to Mr Bennett.

This is just another BS birther issue being propagated by a wacko nutcase.

President Obama did present his legal birth certificate from Hawaii in 2007. That document has been physically reviewed by numerous independent sources to verify it's authenticity including FactCheck.org. Images of that document have been available online for years and the Hawaii Dept of Health which issued that document has verified all of the information on it.

"Birthers" are idiots and they don't even attempt to hide that fact.

I am not sure I understand why this Bennett fellow is doing this, other than the opportunity to get his name in the paper.

If the president and his campaign filled out the proper paperwork and provided the proper documentation to get the president onto the ballot in Arizona, then why go through this dog and pony show?

Certainly it is not the job of this civil servant to make some outrageous request unique to this president. Why is this fellow holding the president up to such higher standards?

it's not a big deal to provide a certified birth certificate. that's why obama has provided one already.

and you realize of course that hospitals don't provide birth certificates right? the department of health provides them.

what law? where is it written that a birth certificate must be provided?

and, no, hawaii will not send him the docs, because they have no legal authority to do so.

They don't have to give him a copy of anything, they can simply verify via written communication.

Barring that, once Bennett proves that he is making a legitimate request, Hawaii will provide him with a COLB, the prima facie proof that Obama was born in Hawaii and therefore a natural born citizen.

The birthers are NEVER going to get what they think they should get which they don't know what it is because they haven't even seen it.

Since Arizona hasn't asked for a copy of the birth certificate, but confirmation of President Obama's birth records, I would be surprised if Hawaii sent a copy of the Birth Certificate.

If Bennett wanted a copy of the original birth certificate, he could have asked President Obama to supply one, or asked President Obama to ask Hawaii to send him one. But he didn't do that. Hawaiian law allows for 'verification in lieu of a certified copy, but only under specific circumstances provided for by Hawaiian law.

Bennett apparently hasn't convinced Hawaii that he meets those requirements.

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/story/2012-05-19/hawaii-arizona-obama-birth/55070008/1

Wisch says Hawaii state laws require Bennett to show legal authority that this office needs the records to update its official lists as part of its ordinary work.

Wisch says as soon as Bennett gives Hawaii adequate authority, the Aloha State will verify Obama's birth

Of course Bennett could just ask all the candidates to provide certified copies of their birth certificates...but perhaps he is worried that Mitt can't provide one?

It is insane that the State of Hawaii follow its own laws?

But if Bennett wants an official confirmation of Obama's birth records by the State of Hawaii, and doesn't feel like waiting, it is available here:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 27, 2011
HAWAI‘I HEALTH DEPARTMENT GRANTS PRESIDENT OBAMA’S REQUEST FOR CERTIFIED COPIES OF ‘LONG FORM’ BIRTH CERTIFICATE
HONOLULU – The Hawai„i State Health Department recently complied with a request by President Barack Obama for certified copies of his original Certificate of Live Birth, which is sometimes referred to in the media as a “long form” birth certificate.
“We hope that issuing certified copies of the original Certificate of Live Birth to President Obama will end the numerous inquiries related to his birth in Hawai„i,” Hawai„i Health Director Loretta Fuddy said. “I have seen the original records filed at the Department of Health and attest to the authenticity of the certified copies the department provided to the President that further prove the fact that he was born in Hawai„i.”

As you well know James, Obama is the only candidate who has provided a legitimate birth certificate- so the question should be- what does Mitt have to hide- I mean if you thought not seeing a birth certificate was relevant.

But dont' get distracted James- Bennett isn't asking for a birth certificate- he is asking Hawaii to verify what it has already verified- you remember when.

Unlike the whackjob birthers, we liberals have the common sense to know that when Birthers demand proof from only one candidate and not the other that the reasons are political. Especially when you make that claim James.

What you probably know, but just are trying to spread misinformation about- Hospitals dont' have official birth certificates- the appropriate government agency has those. And the official birth certificate show Barack Obama was born in Hawaii.

Oh and admission records of his mother in the hospital? Just like Birthers said they 'only needed a birth certificate that showed the doctor and hospital' until they got one- if you ever saw admission records for his mother, then you would demand proof that she was actually there.

Birthers are only interested in proving Obama was not born in the U.S.. Anything else is not acceptable.

    Right James?

Gotta love Birthers. Even they admit they don't care abou the evidence and that they are willing to use any lie, speculation or innuendo in order to remove Barack Obama from office.

For Birthers- it is only about removing Barack Obama from office. It has nothing to do with where he was born.

What is funny is that you completely have missed the point.

    Hawaii is enforcing the law.

And Birthers are whining about it.

Yeah, how dare we try to maintain the integrity of our nation and the US Constitution?

You know that he told you that he's not qualified to hold that office? Or, weren't you paying attention?

No that would just be crazy.

Look at the two candidates- Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.

Without knowing who either of them are- would you be able to predict who the State of Arizona would require additional evidence of eligiblity for?

I have not seen the slightest bit of evidence that you care one bit about this nation or our Constitution.

Barack Obama was legally elected by the Electoral College, and confirmed by the U.S. Congress- all as per the U.S. Constitution- yet you repeatedly try to pretend otherwise.

And no, I do not remember Barack Obama saying he was not qualified- that is a rather subjective term abused by most everyone- but he is eligible. And that has been proven over and over.
