If Democrats get their universal income, universal food stamps, universal Medicare ,,, universal everything ,,,, why would anyone want to go to college to build a career under universal college tuition.

Humans are DRIVEN to excel. Regardless the MONETARY constraints. It is in our DNA. Hell, social standing, is over SEX. Social approval is paramount.

    This will ALWAYS be.

The assumption that everything will be free is STUPID. This whole idea is STUPID. Either or thinking.

The same kind of reasons people do now I expect. You don’t need to go to college to get a job that provides a basic income now, people do it because they want more than a basic income or because they want to follow a career that better interests them. Strengthening any basic social safety net isn’t going to significantly change any of those motivations.

We've been told by Democrats that humans are driven to be taken care of by a nanny state ,,, that humans don't want the freedom or opportunity to excel ,,, they want to be taken care of and taken to the wood shed if they so much as criticized the totalitarian state. History is littered with examples of genocidal nanny states in which the dictators are wealthy and everyone else is equally poor ,,,, examples of wealth equality Democrat socialists promote with their every breath.

Is it your opinion that Americans are, by nature, lazy? That they do not want to learn, grow or succeed? That they are happiest when sitting at home in their pajamas, watching day time television?

SOME humans are driven to excel.
Social standing- Look around. Parents used to insist their kids be clean and neat in public, no matter how poor they were. Today, beautiful women (Or those who could be) are likely to look like a freight car that has been tagged by half-dozen graffiti artists- and they chose to do it to themselves. Rings in their noses, earlobes looking like a target hole at a carnival. Clothes? Don't even go there. Most of the newer generation either doesn't have full length mirrors of does not care what they see in them. They dress for public like no self-respecting person would dress for a dirty job. As my parents told us- people tend to act better when they dress like they were proud of themselves. How we present ourselves and conduct ourselves in a window into our character. Not absolute, but a strong one.

The number of children age 12-35 now living with their parents has exceed the number living with spouses or significant others, for the first time since the depression. The number of grandchildren having to be raised by grandparents is also at an all-time high. Same for the number of people in that age bracket who are being aided with parental support.

People with self-respect and pride DO NOT put themselves in that position It's not what society requires of them- it is what a healthy person requires of themselves.
Those who lack that personal pride and self respect have no trouble with the idea of looking and acting like trash. The do-gooders in society want all trash to be acceptable these days, and we are sure as hell getting it. And those people love it when politicians wave the "Free" flag, because that is the limitation of their mindset.

"Excel" is a wonderful but very limited and rare objective among the current generations.
YOU are what you do. When you act as if you had no values or self-respect- it is because you don't. If you did- you wouldn't allow yourself to behave that way.
It's why we have some trash in congress today - trash elected them because they think the same way.
As Pelosi said, in some districts a glass of water with a D next to it would get elected. She could have said a turd instead of a glass of water, and it would still be a valid statement

Because, some fields actually require that much education to innovate.

Innovation is the poison that causes income inequality. What part of Socialist dogma promotes innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit?

BTW, I visited a socialist graduation at Hiram College a few years back. It was addressed by Ohio's favorite radical socialist, Sherrod Brown. A large percentage of the graduates majored in "Women Studies", "African American Studies" and other divisive studies Hiram offered. No doubt Uncle Sugar subsidized those educations in divisiveness, spiking demand and driving tuition up.

Capitalism "died in 1929" and socialism has been bailing us out ever since.

Moronic post. The only people "telling" you that are right wing talking heads.

And innovation is driven by a very small percentage of humanity anyway. White conservatives like to pretend that they are the drivers of the economy, but the actuality is that most are riding the coat-tails of a small percentage of creative people while they, themselves, are just hoping to get credit for it by the coincidence of skin tone or hair color ...

Innovative people will continue to be innovative because that is their nature.

Really! Some humans are driven to be productive, and clearly some use any reason not to :) We have a guy "Greeter" at home depot that sits in a wheelchair five hours a day and is BARELY able to speak legibly can hardly manage to put his chair on the truck ramp and still gets in and drives himself to and from work four day a week!

You think you would be capable of that sort of thing Guy?

Doesn't dismiss the fact that a great number of people able to better themselves do not because they are content in poverty and a life of sitting in front of a monitor eating ramen soup and counting the days until the 15th of the month..

I MOST certainly could do it better if my literal HEALTH would not decline if kept to any rigorous schedule. FOOLS only consider physical disability. And they would work the ill to death, if not PHYSICALLY disabled.

Not everyone is motivated by GREED!

Most people WANT to learn and want to work and want to help others.

What allllllllllllllll you right wingers are on about is, LEARNED HELPLESSNESS. They did rat studies, where they put rat in pail of water. And some, they helped up on the side for a short rest. All the others, they let struggle. They gave up and drowned. The ones with a boost, had HOPE. And so, they would tread water FAR longer, by maybe five times, before drowning.

What we MUST avoid, is helplessness. Which leads to SETTLING. Or GIVING UP. This is not in the nature of man, unless trauma and stasis prevails.

What we NEED, is AN ERGONOMIC culture, and workplace. And upraising of youth. The human spirit shines, when NURTURED. We must LEARN how to NURTURE humans.

NOT nurture robots, or numbers or anything else. An ERGONOMIC culture would see MANY more productive humans.

If they had taken me out of the draft and given me free money I would have joined the permanent underclass.

Millions upon millions of people do it. It's the thing to do.
