Hi all. I'm Anna. I've been a political junkie all my life. This is my first time on this particular forum.

    A question.
Whenever I try to upload an avatar or a profile picture I get a notice saying "unable to move file."
I used a photo reducer to make sure my photos were small enough but I'm still getting the same message. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

Okay then, never mind. I guess I don't need a picture if no is paying attention to me :)>

I don't know. My avatars are located on my computer. I've had no luck linking from avatar sites or an online photo place. Are you linking from your hard drive?

I'm not linking. I'm trying to upload directly from my computer.

Edit- I couldn't link either. I tried linking to my Facebook and I couldn't.
I can select one of the avatars that this site offers. I just can't uphold my own.

Right; I'm not computer savvy enough to be of any help, but there is a feedback and suggestions forum where you can contact the moderators. Perhaps one of them can help.

I've never had such a problem uploading an avatar. Is the "unable to move file" notice coming from your windows explorer or from the website software? Does it say why it can't be moved(too big)? Have you tried copying the avatar/picture and pasting it to a different place on your drive, like to the Desktop? Then try to upload it from there instead of from your Pictures folder?

If I can do it anyone can. I don't know what I did though - I fumbled about trying different things then suddenly there it was. [IMG]I couldn't believe it!! :eyepopping:

    Hi Anna,

I think there is something broke with the site right now that is preventing you from moving a pic for your avatar from your computer to the site. Just be patient, and hopefully it will get fixed in time. Hopefully your contact with a mod will answer your question, but I think something just isn't working right at the present time. Come on in and take part anyway.

I think you're right because when I Googled the error page (vBulletin could not move/copy file) it said the problem was with the site administrator, not with the user. I posted in the help forum and I'm awaiting a reply.

Anna, send me a PM by clicking on my avatar and include your image and I'll be happy to modify it for you. Or you could simply include it in your next post and I'll send it back. Your choice.

Out of curiosity, if you can come up with a solution, please post it here. We seem to have a system glitch and are waiting for it to be solved.
    We apologize for the inconvenience.
For now, it seems that we can still attach files.

I had a brief private message chat with Moderator 'bois darc chunk' the other day and he told me people have been having trouble with posting pics, he says it might be something to do with the last forum software upgrade.
The problem only seems to occur when trying to download a pic (or avatar) from our computers straight into the forum.
One way round it is to go through a Photobucket account, I do that all the time to post pics in the forum, but I don't know if you can do that with avatars.
Send me your avatar in an e-mail to okee438f (at) aol (dotcom) and I'll upload it to my Photobucket account and send you the link to see if it works that way.

Tell your server administrator to set "upload_tmp_dir" in php.ini to the full path of some directory on the filesystem that apache/php has access to, and (assuming linux) to chmod the directory permissions to "1777". He will need to restart apache after this change.

Upon investigating it is not the size at fault as I assumed originally, what has probably happened is your host has upgraded to php5.4 or above.

    This is probably your solution
Next, go to Admin Control Panel -> Settings -> vBulletin Options -> Server Settings and Optimization Options, and set Safe Mode Upload Enabled to Yes (if PHP Safe Mode is ON) or No (if PHP Safe Mode is OFF or if you’re running PHP >= version 5.4).

Don't sweat it. If you're attractive, it's just God shielding you from the attentions of all the PF pervs.
