How good is the DNC at choosing candidates?

Is Joe Biden what the woke people wanted?

Non black, non female, non gay, but a stupid pedophile,

    that's what the DNC wanted,

is that what the public wanted, or is the public an unnecessary part of politics?

The DNC wanted someone who could get elected that they could control. If you think about it, Kamala and Joe, are cast from the same mold. Both are incompetent and more than happy to hold high office with all the perks and few of the responsibilities. The woke historians will rate them as great public servants. What more could they want?

Whoever controls the party's establishment makes the rules. I am guessing when a brokered convention actually happens again, they will change the rules back to allow the superdelegates to vote on round 1 again.

Since Biden announced he would run for reelection, the DNC and the Democratic Party leaders have done everything they could to ensure he wouldn’t be challenged. At least by a name recognized, viable candidate. They know the history of a sitting president who was challenged during his party’s primaries. Two sitting presidents withdrew from the primaries, 1952 and 1968 both replacement candidates lost. Three sitting presidents survived their primary challenge, 1976, 1980 and 1992, but lost in the general election.

As for the rank and file Democrats, many aren’t happy with having Biden as their nominee. 44% of Democrats want Biden to run again, 32% don’t with 24% undecided. Those Democrats who think Biden is their strongest candidate for 2024, 39% say he is, 36% say Biden isn’t with the rest undecided. Questions 14 and 16. For the same questions about Trump and the Republicans, look at questions 15 and 17.

Many Democrats have their doubts about Biden running again. But the DNC and Democratic Party leaders have told their member to put a cork in it and not to express those doubts. There will be no Democratic Primary debates, so two political unknowns RFK Jr. and Williamson will languish without any media attention and little chance to gain support.

Unlike Trump, Biden has never actually been accused by anyone of pedophilia. And, yeah, he's waaaay too centrist for most of the far left . . . which I regard as a good thing since I'm not far left. He didn't pull a Trump and try to overthrow democracy, so that makes him preferable in comparison at this point.

I really think they wanted Obama again but there's nobody like him so the pick his VP. I think they were hoping some of the Obama presidency rubbed off on him.

The public doesn’t want neither Trump not Biden, that’s most Americans who don’t want neither Trump nor Biden in 2024. 62% of all Americans don’t want Biden to run again, 59% of all Americans don’t want Trump to run again either. Both major parties are tone deaf to what most Americans want or don’t want when it comes to choosing their candidates. Questions 14 and 15. Basically, both major parties are telling most Americans to stick it where the sun don’t shine.

    https://docs.cdn.yougov.com/03l1353cs3/econTabReport.pdf

You also have this: Poll: Most Americans say Biden and Trump are not 'fit' to serve as president.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/poll-mos...-not-fit-to-serve-as-president-133443536.html

Considering the above, how can both major parties let a rematch happen? It does show both major parties are only thinking of themselves, not America as a whole, not the country, just think about their base, of being Republicans and Democrats. Most Americans, who cares about them?

You're correct, what the public want is irrelevant or unnecessary part of partisan party politics.

This is a good and interesting question.

Remember the previous election where Hillary pulled all sorts of insider strings and the DNC conspired to make sure Bernie wouldn't get the nomination?

The DNC was good enough to pick the guy who could beat Trump. That was far from guaranteed, especially in a field that included Sanders & Warren. Biden was suposed to be safe, boring, centrist, but with solid enough left wing credentials to keep the Berniephiles in the tent. He didn't scare off independents and even moderate Republicans who couldn't stomach Trump but would have baulked at someone more left wing.

Obviously Biden's age was not ideal, but experience was also a selling point. Harris was supposed to provide youth & appeal to African American, South Asian & white professional demographics (despite claims she is 'hard left' the left of the party hate her). It also looked like they hoped she could establish enough of a presence to possibly run in 2024. Turns out she has the presence of a damp sponge, but they are stuck with her. The only upside is that she is sufficently invisible that GOP hate campaigns against her haven't dented Biden.

Not much of this is ideal, but 'ideal' took a holiday when the Republican party decided to turn itself into an increasingly radical personality cult. Biden has overseen two very good election results and if Trump is his opponent next year will probably chalk up a third. Hate on him all you want, but that is a good result for any President, especially given America's deep political divisions.

I believe Trump has been accused of infidelity, not pedophilia.

I think, sadly, that decisions made by the DNC are very much influenced by the presence of Trump. Instead of running the best candidate for the country, they have to be concerned with one who would present as the polar opposite of Trump. Hopefully, by 2028, we will be back to 'normal'.

Can you believe Debbie Wasserman Schultz still has a job? Watching her posture as somehow a moral superior to RFK jr. made me queasy.

Yes, that is true, but the trouble is the system discourages the good candidates from running.

The "old pols" got it wrong now and then also. They nominated Warren G Harding in 1920 because "He looked like a president," whatever that look was.

They got it right in 1944, however, when they dumped Henry Wallace for vice president and replaced him with Harry Truman. Enough of them knew that Wallace was bad news and that FDR was not in good health.

Everything changed when Lyndon Johnson got the presidential nomination for Hubert Humphrey in 1968 despite the fact that the Humpster won only one delegate in the primaries. After that George McGovern pushed through "reforms" which got him the nomination in 1972 From then on, the presidential candidate selection process has been hit and miss. In 2016 and 2020, it's all been misses.

Not as sick as actually sleeping with them, which he's never even been accused of. I'm sorry, dude, but Trump has been accused of FAR more than Biden has. He doesn't win this fight. Plus there was that whole trying to overthrow democracy thing.

Like I have said often, I'd like to see Trump ride off in the sunset. He can go any way he wants ... just so he goes.

Yep, and he's undoubtedly guilty of some of the worst of it, including trying to overthrow democracy and steal government documents.

Yea, the Democrats would accuse Trump of causing earthquakes and killer volcanos if they could. I don’t like the guy, but the Dems are piling it on. The funny part is if Democrats succeed in disqualifying Trump, the next candidate could well be harder to beat.

In my limited knowledge of the candidates, the other main anti war candidate is RFK jr.
Then there's Tulsi Gabbard who I guess is third party and might win.

Fundamental to the voting electorate, is to accept that the US can no longer run the world,
that we have lost control, and are being replaced by BRICS,
and it would be wise to become a successful republic instead of a failed empire.

They already are. They're literally already accusing "MAGA Republicans" of causing what they call "climate crisis".

Direct quote: "Hot enough for you? Blame a MAGA Republican."

    Source: Hillary Clinton's twitter

Wow. "MAGA Republicans" (IOW Trump supporters like myself) suuuuuuuuure have A LOT of power... even power over the weather... :)

Democrats do not let their up and comers get any oxygen. That's why their candidates are so compromised. Nearly every one is running a scam of one sort or another after they pass two terms, so they all have the same skeletons hidden, and no one is willing to step forward without being invited.
Any bright up and comer with a future is quickly sidelined. AOC as dingy as she is, was threatened with a funded primary for drawing too much attention to herself by saying un sanctioned things.
The democrats could not win a house seat without a corrupt press covering for them.

Biden promised to return to the olden days of war, inflation, rising taxes on everyone but you. A quiet media joined in on pretended that America's money spout was always there for you, and the taxes would always be paid by that guy over there.
