It's what they do, and have done so for years Surce: https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/...g-one-unintentionally-misinformed-public-guns
The documented instances of the media lying to push an agenda by twisting the facts to fit it grow day by day.
This isn't a problem with reporting about guns, it's a problem with the reporting of pretty much any statistics. They do exactly the same thing with all sorts of different figures on different topics, a combination of statistical ignorance and push for most dramatic (and thus profitable) headlines.
Well, because of cases of stories with no political bent that I know about personally, and the facts were mis-stated. I'm afraid to say it, but for the most part journalists are incompetents who really don't know their ass from a whole in the ground.
This is unquestionable true -- with regard to firearms, when the media is not ignorant, it is dishonest.
According to a media watchdog and fact checker, the conservative media often misinforms the public on guns: "New Harvard Research Shows Clear Expert Consensus Against Gun Lobby And Conservative Media Talking Points. New research from the Harvard Injury Control Research Center shows that firearms experts are in consensus against many of the most prolific talking points from conservative media and the gun lobby." https://www.mediamatters.org/resear...rd-research-reveals-how-conservative-m/203156 "Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump echoed conservative media and the National Rifle Association by baselessly claiming that Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton wants to 'abolish the Second Amendment' and 'take your guns away.' In fact, Clinton says that Second Amendment rights can be 'protected' while the government also implements 'common-sense' measures like universal background checks to keep guns from dangerous people." https://www.mediamatters.org/resear...us-claims-about-clinton-s-gun-policies/210306 "Politico reports this morning that according to a newly-released Gallup poll, 'support for gun control is at its lowest level in 50 years.' Likewise, CNN's Jack Cafferty is using the poll to claim that 'more Americans are against gun control than ever before.' In fact, the Gallup poll points to robust public support for either maintaining or strengthening current gun violence prevention laws." https://www.mediamatters.org/blog/2011/10/26/the-medias-narrow-definition-of-gun-control/183888 "Fox's Special Report Falsely Claims Obama's New Smart Gun Technology Push Is 'Flat-Out Dangerous' " https://www.mediamatters.org/video/...gun-technology-push-flat-out-dangerous/210153
At it again, eh...pushing leftist propoganda sources? Give it up...your bias is well known and you will not convert anyone of reason. The Harvard Injury Control Research Center receives much of its funding from the Joyce Foundation, a group decidedly anti gun that funds a considerable number of gun control biased so called studies, including the likes of discredited Hemenway. Mediamaters is about as left and dishonest as you can get. Related, We had an entire thread on 'Smart guns', as I recall not a single gun rights advocate endorsed support for the proposed technology as anything more than leftist BS.
It was Hillary Clinton who stated that the Heller decision, holding that there is an individual right to keep and bear arms for legal purpoess that have no connection with militia service, was ruled incorrectly. So-called "common sense" measure were argued before the united state supreme court during oral arguments for the Heller case with the district of columbia attempting to claim that their prohibition on the ownership of handguns was constitutional, because they did not simultaneously prohibit the ownership of rifles and shotguns. The district also argued that the second amendment did not protect the ownership of any sort of firearms except for what existing during the ratification period. Both arguments were rejected by the court, which regarded them as being frivolous.
Don't make me laugh! Mediamatters.org is one of the most blatantly left-wing, antigun propaganda machines on the internet today and utterly unworthy of acknowledgement. Oh, and the so-called "Smart Gun Technology Push" IS "flat-out dangerous"! The technology is utterly unreliable, and guaranteed to get people killed if the leftists succeed in shoving it down our throats!
