For me it is extremely RARE.

Although, uncommon, I do sometimes respond when quoted.

I am well aware of who the antagonistic RW Trolls are, and since I never allow myself to be trolled or baited, acknowledging their attempts to get my attention is utterly beneath my dignity.

I am not much a fan of racking up posts by getting into dead end back-and-forth "convos" with someone who is willing to get blue in the face "debating" their sincere "opinion" that "1+1=3".

I outgrew those types of things several internet lifetimes ago.

    How about you?

How do you deal with being quoted?

    How often do you respond?

I try to respond as much as possible. I mean so long as I'm not being trolled.

    Replying, is how conversations/discussions continue.

Discussion? What discussion? Once I have stated the correct answer there is nothing more to be said.

I aim for 100% response rate. Usually ends up being about 90% since I don't log in here much during weekends. I feel as if someone is quoting me I owe them a response. Especially if there's a question involved.

I imagine if you are on the fringe, being quoted isn't much fun.

I'm glad you brought this point up

I try to respond to all civil & honest Posts when quoted especially if there is a question involved & even if the question is Off Topic. Sometimes it may take a while due to other responsibilities.

I can think of only one chronically dishonest Poster who attempts to bait me obsessively whom I usually ignore.

What do other Posters do when slandered & baited with dishonest accusations? Do you defend yourself or let the insults stand & hope that others recognize dishonest slander for what it is?

I respond, unless its somebody trying to get in the last word after an exchg, then I'll usually let 'em. Only one chronic troll I have on IGNORE... which greatly improves my forum experience. ;)

Posting on this forum is supposed to be a pleasant way to pass time, learn, exchange views. In my experience people who chronically insult & slander others reveal more about themselves than the person they're insulting.

I only have one on ignore too. I was trolled so hard I broke my own rule, which was "ignore no one".

Really? I find that most comments don't deserve a response. It is just going to be the latest in Infowars or The Daily Stormer talking points. Responding to mindlessness is a waste of time. It is more important to get the main points out there and ignore the noise. If good people can use the argument and pass it around, that is all that I can hope to accomplish.

I'm sure people say the same thing about the people who cite MSNBC, CNN, and the Young Turks talking points. **** gets old.

Nevertheless, I'm going to give someone the respect they deserve if they ask me a question or quote my post. Very rarely will I not respond.

I don't come here to discuss issues with people who agree with me & I try to respond to every civil Post or question even if it's off topic.
If I don't respond to a civil & honest Post, it's because I'm either busy or having computer issues.

Yes, I typically ignore flamebait posting or direct insults. Just means they lost the argument and there's nothing left for me to say

When I logged on after being off for half a day, I had 18 quotes, which is typical.

I'm not about to try to respond to 18 quotes. And most of them are drivel anyway.

If it's just baiting without slander I frequently ignore them.

With slander, I usually state it is untrue and that any habitual poster in here would already know that. I don't like to let lies stand.

The alert system in here makes it easy to cluster responses by OP, which saves lot of time, so I usually try to answer any valid posts.

I respond most of the time. I always respond to people who are really interested in actually discussing something in an intelligent, respectful way.

I generally do not respond to anything patently offensive. I'm not here for a food fight. Recently I mentioned in a post that my son was a vet who has fought in our recent wars. One of our well-known member/trolls responded with, "Your son is an idiot." That was it - that one sentence. I was tempted big time to respond, but I just decided not to take the bait.

Recently someone responded to something I said. He/she was so far out in left field that I just let it go without a response. I don't mean out in the political left field. I mean in the mental health left field. I read and reread his reply, and all I could say to myself was "WTF?"

In my time here, I've learned that a lot of people here are just not interested in actually interacting and discussing things. They are just internet graffiti artists.

I've had some really good, lengthy discussions here, though. Anyone who disagrees with my point of view is welcomed to discuss and debate with me on an intelligent, respectful level.

I honestly do not know what "baiting" means, but I guess it involves a post like this: "Oh, so if you're a conservative opposed to gay marriage, I guess you would have opposed civil rights legislation in the 60's, right?"

I agree with that sentiment (to an extent).

It is just that, in my experience at PF, 99% of the RW members who quote me are just TROLLING (by regurgitating warmed-over RW Fever Swamp copypasta).

It is clearly beneath my dignity to acknowledge their Trollbait.

In the past (many internet lifetimes ago) I might have wasted my time on partisan Trolls.

I have a outgrown that, and (unlike many others) I see no need in getting into an inflammatory back-and-forth that makes the work of PF's hard working Mods more difficult.

That said, if someone from PF's RW (from the minuscule handful that I don't have on ignore) make a relevant (non-Trollish) comment, I am more than willing to be engaged.

However, if one's only attempt to get my attention is based on RW Fever Swamp Trollbait:

It is abundantly clear that any attempt to get my attention (by quoting me) amounts to a waste of bandwidth and an exercise in futility.

But, you do make a good observation. :salute:

Yeah I struggle to bother with conspiratorial Oblermann types, but I like to have a shot at convincing them anyway.

Some comments just don't necessitate a response.
