Here's what I think. North Korea gives up all of its nuclear weapons programs. It doesn't proliferate, nor does it test or fire missiles. It opens up to unimpeded inspections.

In exchange, the US publicly accepts to the world that it recognizes China's and Russia's guarantee of the security of the North Korean regime.

Sounds like a decent plan...except I do not see Kim agreeing to it. His loss of face would be too great. Essentially he would be saying that his big brothers would have to protect him...which is not a good position for a dictator.

All that being said...I would love to see it proposed and discussed. Perhaps there would be worldwide sentiment favoring it to the point where Kim could not reject it without losing the support of both Russia and China.

It is a problem that has to be solved...but I honestly feel it is low on the list of problems that need solving immediately. It is the kind of problem that tends to worsen if it is given more attention than required.
