This is a thread for listing direct, or reasonable indirect effects on -your- -personal- day-to-day life and circumstances due to the threatened federal government shutdown in the U.S., positive or negative. Will be interesting to see what people say. Please stay on-topic. Finger pointing and policy discussions are not topical to this particular thread.

I'll go first. None. Can't think of any, which is why I made the thread. Maybe there are posters out there who will experience specific, -personal- -direct- effects of a government shutdown. Please tell if so.

The last one that Republicans caused added 25 million to the debt.

Considering they just added 1.5 trillion to give corporations huge taxcuts...I guess that wasn't much huh?

    Fiscal conservatives my ass

You beat me to it :angered:
We could have multiple threads the same like "shithole nations" threads.
I will control myself although Moi's Shithole thread was first.

    Government shut down. :woot:
Too bad the Federals don't save any money at it. Just delayed delivery.
A high density population of D.C. functionaries
who will find their income withheld.
    Gotta luv it.

    Media panders to them.
The consumers of our tax money with more benefits than normal working people at the same job.
All those Congress people surrounded by their impoverished staff.

What part do I have incorrect?
Will the "enemy" have a window to get us because we are "shut down"?

    Moi :oldman:
I bet the Democrats cave in!
Those welfare check getting held up

For certain, it won't impact the dimwits in Congress (BOTH sides) who will still get paid on time!! Perhaps they should stop being the hypocrites that they are and send their paychecks to the military instead.

The thing you purposely avoid mentioning is, it's 1.5 Trillion over a ten year period! The last idiot added that much in his first 2 years of office and didn't do a damn thing for the American people! Before his reign of retardation was over he had piled up 8 Trillion and shoved a very expensive health law up the taxpayers ass's that had to penalize and confiscate tax refunds to work and even that didn't pan out..

So 1.5 trillion over 10 years! Well that's CHUMP change after the eight years of the Great President Obatard contribution ;)

Laws should be enacted where any shutdown has to go for 60 days before congress can reconvene to consider reopening the government.

And only the military gets paid, and the congoress and civil service get no backfill checks when it's over.

Make this a serious matter, not the trifling matter it is now.

I may end up supporting my active duty military son if the shutdown persists, but otherwise nothing.

They should really stop sending out SS checks during a government shutdown.

Watch how fast the GOP would move to avoid the shutdown. After all, retirees on SS and Medicare are the GOP's base. We have several of those on this board, who probably applaud the shutdown because it doesn't affect their SS check.

My grandmother's on disability and I still don't support the shutdown(see: thread.) This just makes us look bad. This Congress is epic at making us look bad. I'm not even surprised anymore.

Yeah, these SS recipients would be thrilled to find out that the Dems tied their checks to amnesty for illegals.

And that despite having total control of the government, Republicans still couldn’t manage to tie their own shoes.

The shut down won't affect me one bit. Keep it going until dems figure out they've been losing elections since 2010 and then start acting a little more moderate. Dems just sealed their fate for the next election in 2018, again. You see, dems wouldn't lose so much if they moved toward the center and became more flexible and compromising. (R)s are just doing what their constituents want them to do.

I have one son in the military who I believe will not be paid. As a result he and his family will suffer. I find it a sad commentary on the state of our country that someone who has done multiple combat deployments to Iraq, and Afghanistan, will be made to suffer in order to protect illegals.

Define "total control." Total control would be having 60 Republicans in the Senate. It takes 60 votes to pass a budget CR. I continue to be amazed by low information voters.

They will also be thrilled to find out that the GOP will soon start the drumbeat for "entitlement reform" (err benefit cuts), to pay for the tax cuts for the rich and corporations.

I believe the GOP could use reconciliation, just like they did for the tax cuts, to go with a simple majority rule. Why don't they?

Every vet and anyone that has a relative in the military should flood Schumer's office telling him he should resign.

    Send it to Trump.

Wrong----------------it is Congress that didnt vote to keep the government running. The no vote is on Schumer. Why not a clean bill to keep funding the government.

Increased tax revenue is already reducing the annual deficit, and therefore the debt, if spending is reduced. Any dept of gov can find ways to reduce spending besides entitlements.
