as we left for school for the Christmas break, we wished the nuns and each other either, happy holidays or merry Christmas and happy new year.

So I see no big deal in saying either. However it is most fun to say happy holidays to cons and merry CHRISTmas to libs. LOL.

    You naughty person you!

Here in Oz we don't have a heap of holidays around this time - I am acknowledging Hannukah but our Jewish population is quite small and Jewish holidays are not broadly publicised or celebrated by Gentile Ozs (however I have to say a former colleague of mine sent his Gentile children to a Jewish school for a superior education and the kids loved it - double holidays!). We don't have a Kwanzaa for example. So for us it's easy. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year does us nicely. If we start "happy holidays" I shall be very disappointed.
