    Apparently "good" discrimination is OK.

About as angry as people who make statements like this are that women & people of colour were excluded from being chosen for centuries.

Also about as angry as people who make statements like that are that a political party whose supporters pretend to care about 'merit' have a Congressional delegation that is about 90% white & male (talk about affirmative action!).

I doubt it, she will probably focus on showing that someone of her race and gender can do the job very well. Everybody has an edge to get to the top in Trumps case for instance it was the fact he was born in to a very rich family, I doubt he dwelt on that when he became president!

Less race and gender and more like expendability. Why chain a viable future candidate to the impending train wreck?

The rumblings around town were that Biden would choose a minority (of race and/or gender) which means that Kamala's record is being compared to the records of other minorities (race and/or gender). Therefore, she was hired based on her merits.

Many people are hired based on their race or gender (or other factors that aren't directly related to the ability to do the job for which they are being considered). Historically, this means everyone who was/is not white and male never had a chance.

Given the makeup of our government do the last 200+ years ( predominantly White males) this thread seems to be filled with people who are angry that they now only get preferential treatment 90% of the time instead of 100%.

What's so wrong with not giving anybody preferential treatment? It isn't excusable just because it isn't the usual suspects. If it is wrong, then it is wrong.

I haven't been alive for, "centuries," and neither have you.

As an equalitarian and civil rights activist working for equality for everyone regardless of their race and gender, I believe opportunities should be based on merit and one's race and gender should not even matter, but one's race and gender are a big deal to Democrats...

She only care about gaining power to be as corrupt as she always has been. Wonder if Joe required "services" like Willy Brown?

Yeah .. you totally missed the point.

We were supposed to have grown out of that crap by now. That means NO ONE should be getting preferential treatment.

When you find the trouble, shoot it. Keep re-doing the trouble and it's still trouble. Perpetuating this stuff is like telling your child they can go ahead and do something naughty, because their sibling did something naughty yesterday.

So you only acknowledge and respond to events that have happened in your lifetime? Including achievements of your nation, society or culture? I'm betting not.

Well as an 'equalitarian and civil rights activist' (and thanks for the laugh) you should be pleased that the Dems VP candidate is amply qualified for the post. She has plenty of relevant experience & she is clearly intelligent, so good choice.

Now here is my question. As a vocal supporter of 'equality', how do you explain the fact that a demographic group that constitutes about 35% of Americans makes up about 90% of Congressional Republicans? Do republicans simply not believe that women and people of colour are worthy of representing them, or are the women & people of colour who join the GOP of such low quality that meritocratic principles mean that very few get to Congress?

I guess she developed sudden amnesia about the Biden accuser she said she believed. The DNC as a whole has developed amnesia about her tough-on-crime record as a prosecutor. She bragged about her conviction rate, she bragged about supporting three-strikes laws, and she bragged about mass incarceration through the War on Drugs. Republicans who have supported those things are routinely compared to the KKK as a result, and this heifer gets the red carpet.

Besides that equality is a myth, there's no way to have both equality AND merit-based opportunities. It's one or the other. You have to pick one.

This is the slippery slope. What is considered preferential to who in what circumstances?

Can't help you with that. It's all about merit, for me. Merit is the only true equality.

I am not a Trump fan in any way but I'm wondering how you connect his win to affirmative action?

I would imagine she is proud to be a woman, a POC and considered qualified to be chosen VP.

Being proud to be the gender and race you happen to be is nonsensical. You didn't make yourself that.

I wonder if she's going to ask the FBI to investigate her running mate for the alleged Rape that she is so obviously concerned about.
