For example asking what I could do to help make the world a better place would be a foolish question to ask. If god is all powerful then this world isn't this way because it must be, it's this way because he want's it to be and our desires and concerns are of no importance. If he is not all powerful THEN I would ask what I could do to help make this world a better place.

I may be wandering off topic here but reading through this thread many of the irrational assertions believers display have raised a question for me. If we assume the Almighty ( or whatever you want to call he/she/it) granted us intelligence and free will we might also assume the faculty of logical thought is both our greatest blessing and the greatest threat to our survival. - - think of nuclear weapons for instance.
Why then do the religous so frequently burry this 'gift', the gift for logical thought?

The concept that there is a GOD and that this GOD exists as advertised in ancient human religious text and that this GOD has a PLAN.....well such a PLAN is completely incompatible with FREEWILL.

Plus there is absolutely ZERO LOGIC to the concept.

You cannot have FREEWILL and at the same time be a part o some GOD'S PLAN.

The two concepts are not compatible.

But it always FASCINATES ME when certain members of the FAITHFUL try to discuss this logically only to fail miserably.

Don't get me wrong....I think for some people RELIGION AND FAITH are not only a good thing but entirely necessary for them as not everyone is like me as a person who can handle the possibility that when I die...that's it.

Some people are ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED OF DEATH!!!

I am not.

I would much rather be alive and will fight to remain so....but I understand that death is a part of life and we all die.

But for some people.....without having FAITH that when they die they will be taken to that proverbial Mansion in the Sky.....without that Faith.....they would be unable to function and I once made the mistake of informing an old friend of mine on EXACTLY HOW the Imperial Roman Biblical Canon created both the Old and New Testament.

And I made the mistake of asking him....."Why do you think that only 4 Apostles Gospels were used in the New Testament and not the other 8 Apostles Gospels?"

And I made the mistake of explaining to him how Ramses II was NOT the Pharaoh nor Leader of Egypt when Exodus occurred and I also informed him that in REALITY as is documented 23 TIMES in the HEBREW TANAKH that MOSES NEVER PARTED THE RED SEA!!!

Moses CROSSED the YAM SUPH....which means Reed Sea or Seaweed Sea at low tide.

The Yam Suph is a very shallow Tidal Salt Water Marshy area between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

Moses and the Hebrews left Egypt and only after 3 to 7 days of the Egyptian people complaining that when the Hebrews left they stole a great deal of Gold and Rugs...etc....although STOLE is a subjective word in this case...after everyone complained only THEN did Pharaoh under great pressure send the Egyptian Army Chariots after Moses and the Hebrews to get the stuff back!!

Moses and the Hebrews CROSSED the Yam Suph at low tide and it refers to the Yam Suph crossing 23 TIMES in the Tanakh which along with the Talmud is what the Roman Imperial Biblical Canon used to create and write the OLD TESTAMENT.....and Moses NEVER caused the Red Sea to part...there were no 1000 foot high walls of water splitting the Red Sea.....Ramses II WAS NOT EVEN BORN YET!!!!

I also made the mistake of educating him to the fact that only 4 Apostles Gospels are used in the New Testament not not the other 8 because they CONFLICT!!!

The FAB 4 Apostles Gospels say Jesus taught he was THE ACTUAL SON OF A GOD.

The other 8 Apostles Gospels say....Jesus taught that ALL MEN COULD BECOME THE SON'S OF GOD BY LEARNING AND PRACTICING HIS TEACHINGS!!!

Last thing I educated him to.....Revelation was so hated a Book by the Roman Imperial Biblical Canon THAT IT WAS REJECTED ENTRY INTO THE NEW TESTAMENT OVER 7 TIMES FOR BEING CONSIDERED..........TOO STUPID!!!!

When the power of Rome waned and the day's of the massive Roman Army's were gone....Roman Politics Changed!!!

Now it was about CREATING A SYSTEM OF CONTROL SO THAT INSTEAD OF SOLDIERS ROME WOULD USE PRIESTS, BISHOPS, CARDINALS AND POPES.....and Rome placed them aside and within the Kings and Queens of all of Europe and parts of Asia and in doing so the Roman's......

.......the Roman's created the most powerful and enduring system of control ever devised by man.....POLITICAL RELIGION!!!

Agree with most of what you've said here but I want to claim Rome catholicism wasn't the only powerful and enduring system ever devised by man.
Islam can make claim to being a political religion as can Hiduism . Relgion in fact always thrives on control, guilt and promises of a reward for pain and toil in this realm 'rewarded' after death. It's a simple and very effective plan. Rome added an unprecedented amount of guilt and sexualised imagery that effectively works its way into youthful sub-conscious minds there to fester and enslave.

 

But Rome was the first to set up such a system of control within many governments.

Islam at that time was also a system of control but much more fractured.

If my understanding of Multiverse Theory is at all accurate........ the winning lottery numbers in one time line........ would not necessarily be exactly the correct winning lottery numbers in a true alternate universe....... where the butterfly effect would kick in to at least some degree...… and possibly affect the machine that chooses those numbers!

Of course..... they would be worth playing anyway...… just in case the butterfly affect was not sufficient to alter them.........????!

I personally am of the belief that YHWH - G-d...… evolved...… and/ or learned and got better and better and better at creating over infinite time in the past........... I am of the belief that a great covering Cherub known to Catholics as Lucifer and to Muslims as Iblis........ got jealous and led about a third of the angels in some sort of rebellion that did astonishing devastation to the earth and much of the universe..... I suspect one of the major falls of Lucifer - Iblis and his angels resulted in one or more of the major extinctions of the dinosaurs.......... Edgar Cayce stated that there have been five Adam - Eve combinations over the past several million years.... that would make sense out of a lot of strange archeological evidence..........

Newquay was a fun place to be when the yanks were at St Mawgan, I used to work the door and the lads were always well behaved and used to keep me well supplied with bottles of JD for next to nothing!

Now its all Stag and Hen parties and the summer is a nightmare, never minded sorting out the Stag parties, but 20 drunken women on a hen party can be downright scary!

 

I guess I didn't endear myself to the Pub crowd when I announced that Soccer was a sport for girls! LOL!!!

I was just kidding around but the whole competition thing got REAL SERIOUS after that!!

Plus if there is one thing that a guy from the U.K. hates it's getting their ass kicked in darts be some Yank who had never been in there before over and over again! LOL!!!

Thing is....I don't even play darts but once ever year or two but my Military Dad had me throwing knives at a target on a tree in my back yard when I was almost 4 years old.

Anything with hand/eye coordination I am good at in the extreme.

And I was NOT the one who started the whole....OK...you beat me...but let's see how you do when money is on the line!!!
