Okay, you have posession of a Bulgarian Passport. I have possession (or more truthfully, I can get access to) a Pommie one, an Indian one and even a New Zealand one, a USA one, a Hungarian one, a German one....even one from the Ukrain.....and there is no lie there. Let it go, mate. Allow normal transmission to resume.

I said I have access to one from Ukrain. "Miss Ukrain's" of 1980. I doubt she will hand it over to you.

Nah, just testing the waters out. I don't want Ukraine. Don't want to get shot. I'm young. I'm a small boy. But one day if I need one, I'll holler. Sounds good?

Is Bulgarica Bulgarian? I don't see see any reason to doubt it. (I've known several people who learned English as a second language and who speak it brilliantly ... and Slavs seem especially good at it, as witness Joseph Conrad and Vladimir Nabokov. )

Although I'm on the Right now, I have a long activist background in the Far Left, including doing voter registration work in the South, spending time in prison during the Vietnam War (just a few months), and other excitements. (I'm neither proud nor ashamed of this. We all make mistakes, and, as Lenin said, God himself gives young people the right to speak nonsense (and presumably act on it) for a while..) I occasionally mention this in an argument with a Lefty -- especially when they accuse me of being a white racist -- and sometimes get challenged on the truth of my claim. I do what Bulgarica does: ok, let's both send some money to a mutually-acceptable person and I'll then prove it, with the money-holder as judge and the loser forfeiting his cash. I even offer ten-to-one odds. I've never been taken up on it ... and the Lefties who've made the challenge have never once had the grace to then admit they might be wrong.

    On the other hand,

Thank you, Doug. Bets with a middleman work surprisingly well.

By the way, I should probably tell you this, because you don't know. I'm not insulted, its okay.

Bulgarians are not Slavs. And if you call a Bulgarian "a Slav", that's a blood insult. It's the same as telling him that you're gonna hang his mother. Just be careful. Or might as well tell a Bulgarian that you are gonna punch his mom.

The haplogroup that contains the Slav gene, the R1a haplogroup, the same gene that Poland, Russia and Ukraine's populations are consisted of, is barely seen in Bulgarians. Same with the Turkish haplogroup. Only 4%.

A ton of genetic studies proved and busted all myths that Bulgarians are Slavs. I guess too much Internet propaganda and nonsense gets you thinking otherwise.

The majority of the studies are Swiss. You can look it online. Bulgarians’ blood brothers, 100% undoubtedly, are Macedonians, Croatians, Greeks, and a small part or Serbia near Macedonia. The same gene also matches greatly in Southern Romania, and a bit in Sicily, Italia.

Slavs were tribes that passed by here, that mixed with the Trachians and pra-Bulgarians here but that did not change the genetic structure a lot.

The "Russian alphabet" is created by Bulgaria around the year 900-1100 I reckon. Ukraine also uses the Cyrillic which is basically a Bulgarian alphabet. Brothers Kirill and Metodi created it. Russian and Ukrainian languages are also a bad copies of the Bulgarian. Russian is practically copied off Bulgarian.

    On Ukrainian:
    gumka (tire)

    On Bulgarian:
    guma (tire)

    On Russian:
    ruka (hand)
    stul (chair)
    sontse (sun)

    On Bulgarian:
    raka (hand)
    stol (chair)
    sluntse (sun)

They just changed one letter and claimed it "a new language". Which is funny.

I can go like that all week.

    Greets!

Yikes. Lazy old me! I just assumed that because the Russians call the Bulgarians their "little brothers", this must be based on shared DNA. However, I'm not the only one to make this mistake. (I don't know about the Moscow Times today, but 30 years ago it was a beacon of liberalism, relatively speaking. ) And then there's this.

But ... actually, I personally don't care a flip about who has what DNA. All these stupid differences, just the random accidental result of who got driven out of the tribe into new land, who got isolated, founder's effect, genetic drift .... what an bottomless pit of misery they have caused.

If I had supernatural powers, I'd give everyone on earth a nice replacement injection of all the major world's tribes' DNA. So we'd all be Chinese-Hindu-Jew-African-Arab-Slav-Teuton-Celt-etc-etc.

Anyway, in a couple of generations, your descendants' DNA will be chosen by you from a spreadsheet. Then we'll have to fight over something else than skin color and nose shape.

    Hahaha, I agree.

Bratushkas in some other life. It's often a hypocrisy masked in politeness. A lot of Russian forums are full of anti-Bulgarian hate and insults because of NATO & the EU. Anyone who speaks Russian, I can send you the links to read and laugh. Also Russians in Bulgaria don't integrate. They just open up stores here, shops with only Russian text, they only speak Russian and they have no interest in learning other languages. Russians in general are invasive species. I know a fact that Police Officers around New York had to learn Russian because living there people and gang members simply refused to learn English.

Hmmm... as an American, I'm generally not in favor of judging nations by their worst citizens. I expect you've heard of what the British didn't like about Americans during WWII: 'Over-paid, Over-sexed, and Over here.' Since it was a question of us or the Germans (and later the Russians) they learned to live with us. But I'm sure some of them could match your anti-Russian tales with Americans taking center stage.

You know who the nicest people in the world are? The former Vikings, the Danes. Which shows you that human nature is not inherent.

Never heard the over-thing. Thanks for sharing that.

I like you very much, but I will respectfully disagree with you. A whole North Africa is pouring into Europe as we speak, and I'm talking illegal criminals, young age, some of them soldiers, millions of them in fighting age. They destroy their ID cards before entering so they cannot be processed and brought back. Recently there has been acid attacks on Spanish police officers for example. The so called "peaceful Africans" throw bottles with acid and firecrackers attached to the sides of the bottles. Some of them are reallly ingenuitive and actually prefer feces and urine, again with fireworks attached to the sides. So they can infect you with numerous diseases, even AIDS. When Police runs, and I understand why they run, I'd too, the Africans invade.

Should we just go and judge their nations by their best citizens? Because if we do that, we might as well bend down and say "put it in".

National identity is hard to break, Doug.

Someone hungry? Here's some melt-in-your-mouth food for you, gentlemen. Some Musaka for you, you good old chaps. Bulgarian Musaka is only tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, and minced meat. Greek Musaka has eggplants, and I personally, hate it. I find eggplant in Musaka to be truly disgusting, but it's your choice. It's just I don't like it. Someone else may.

    It's one of my favorites.

    What's a "cottage pie"?

Cottage - beef, shepherd- lamb or mutton.
It's a meat and veg mixture with a mashed potato topping. It is baked in the oven to brown and crisp the top of the potato.

It looks similar. Just the ingredients are finely minced, kind of. And what's on top?

Mashed potato with dots of butter on it before putting into the oven. Some people like a bit of grated chees on it as well.

Hm. On ours, the top "hat" is flour, eggs and milk. Milk can be regular milk, President milk, you know, for drinking, or Bulgarian milk (salty yogurt milk).

Is it like a pastry, or more like a layer of omelette?

Not a pastry. It's soft. Pretty soft. If you try and pry it with a fork, like lift it with a fork, will fall down immediately into tiny pieces. More like an omelet. Yeah. But a very soft omelet. And not that heavy. It's pretty light. The milk makes it light on taste. It's like a watery light-tasting omelet.

It's kind of like a salty Crème caramel. Imagine that. Good on taste though. Served hot. When it freezes, it becomes your grandma's rubber flip-flop.

Softer. Like the Crème caramel's top. Milk makes it softa.
