After the unbelievable level of unfairness exhibited during the sham impeachment hearings, shameless Democrats now demand a "fair" trial in the Senate.

The Constitution requires the Senate to hold a trial. That act, in itself, is unfair.

The only fair result would be for the Senate to hold the articles of impeachment null and void. The only fair result would be a summary dismissal, with prejudice. Sadly, for the nation, that option is unavailable.

My argument is with the unabashed abuse of power that this Democrat Congress has committed.

Following the constitution, and the rules put in place by republicans for the investigation is not an abuse of power.

My suggestion has been for the Senate to hold a one day trial. From 8am-noon, let the House manager speak, or anyone else he wishes to speak, and present witnesses. Then a lunch break. Resume from 1-5 pm with the defense. Equal time for both. At 5 pm, vote and be done with it.

Wouldn't a fair trial exonerate the President and make the Democrats look less than fair?

The only fair outcome would be to vacate the charges and expunge them from the record.

Haven't you seen the members post their leg tingles that the impeachment is a permanent stain on Trump's record?

In reality, the impeachment is a stain on the House of Representatives and Democrats. Unfortunately, the leftist historians, that our Universities produce, won't record it as such.

Impeaching a president to obstruct justice is an abuse of power.

The Senate majority makes the rules for the trial. McConnell can swear in the Chief Justice and Senators and call for a vote to dismiss the charges without even having paper in hand or house managers. It all depends on the rules McConnell makes up which will be based on whether Pelosi continues to play games.

Just as is the case with Carter Page, George Papadopoulos, and Michael Flynn, there's no way for Trump's historical record to be made whole.

The White House was INVITED to send witnesses and documentation to the congressional hearings, but refused to take part, just as they have withheld subpoenaed witnesses and documentation.THEY CHOSE NOT TO PARTICIPATE!!!

So people here are saying that they don't want a fair trial? How will an unfair trial exonerate the President? Don't Americans deserve to know the truth or is that not important?

It is not, by definition. Trump was impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of congress.

Not relevant to the fact that the hearings were baseless from the very beginning. The whole thing was a fraud from the start.

Not relevant to the structural unfairness that the Democrats built into their unfounded process.

Americans do deserve to know the truth.

The news media should be digging into the conspiracy between the fake whistleblower and Schiff's staff.

There should be a Special Counsel investigation, too.

Impeaching a president to obstruct justice is an abuse of power and Democrats impeached Trump to impede an investigation into corruption, money laundering and obstruction of power to shield their presidential frontrunner and his son, amongst others.

It's corruption on the grandest scale and it's in plain sight.

The dems have a tiger by the tail. McConnell "the turtle" is ready for them. And come the next election that tiger will have the dems for lunch. How can a group of politicians be so stupid.

You can whine all you want. Reality remains the same. Abuse of power is an impeachable offense and in no way an abuse of power by the house.

Choosing not to participate is not "obstruction of Congress". Shiff and Nadler could have referred the question of executive privilege to the courts just like has been done in previous impeachments, but they chose not to in their rush.

I'm not sure that Trump's historical record is damaged by this as much as the House of Representatives' historical record is.

Does anyone consider Senator McConnell to be a Trump supporter?

Watch him blister, in a dull boring way, the House's sham process. It's a half-hour long. He starts at the five minute mark.

Is there any time requirement for the Senate to conduct a trial? Is it within 60 days? Six months? Two years?

McConnell could just sit on it for a few years.
