We are almost to 54 million vaccinations. The total number of confirmed covid cases is 27+ million. Therefore, in two months, we vaccinated about twice as many people as got diagnosed with covid in the whole last year. I'd say, it was well worth it for people to socially distance for a while and make some sacrifices, so we finally have a chance to beat covid through heard immunity -- however, through vaccinations, rather than through natural immunity after contracting the virus.

Unfortunately, until we reach herd immunity, many more will die. How sad would it be for someone to die the day before they were scheduled to get vaccinated? I am sure it happens. Life can be cruel.

My concern is that people will think they are "okay" to stop wearing masks and socially distancing because they received the first shot. They could easily contract the virus and remain asymptomatic during the window between shots. I hope most won't become that reckless.

I'm concerned they will think they're o.k. after they get their SECOND shot. The doctors I've seen interviewed said you would still be capable of carrying and transmitting the disease.

That happened to my golf buddy.
He was in rehab for a surgery and got it. His wife, about the same age, had her first shot about 10 days before he got it.

It seems that's what happened in Israel. Infection rates actually increased in the 1 to 1 1/2 weeks after people got their first shot. Essentially, they thought the protection was immediate, and stopped being careful. It really takes almost 2 weeks from the first shot to get about a 50% protection. I wish they would tell this to people when they get vaccinated.

It will be fun to watch Israel. They should give us an idea of what to expect as the numbers rise.
But even now we can probably expect the death rate to be reduced by 50% in about a month just from getting the 75+ crowd.
