Indiana numbers

The state health department announced some interesting information today. We have seen these wild numbers related to the death rate from Covid. They are wild because nobody knows how many infections there are. We only know how many were tested.

The health department completed a random sample testing procedure to determine how many infections there are in the state overall. The death rate calculated by taking the total of the random tests and adding in the 1080 deaths in the state worked out to .05%. That is 5/100ths of one percent. I don't know what that means in other states. Obviously Indiana has had an easier time than New York or New Jersey, but, with any luck, the hard hit states could have a much smaller death rate than they think they had.

Interestingly, 44% of the test subjects that tested positive had no symptoms. Make what you want of it.

No. I heard it on the radio while driving back from the post office. You might try the Indiana dept of health web site. I imagine they will have the complete numbers there. I think doing more random testing to determine the infection rate makes sense. If every state were to do it, we could have some national numbers.

 

Indiana was pretty quick to pull the trigger it seems on quarantine.
