Good of you to admit it. Maybe summer school is not necessary after all.

    We have not abandoned anything.

ME Democracies: Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Turkey and UAE.

Of course the question is how democratic are they. Saddam would win 100% of the vote, so is it really a democracy. Sure, it is a democracy in name.

what the hell does NATO have to do w
There are 29 member states in NATO, all who have an equal say about going to war. Do you not know that? NATO is not an American organization. And the US president or congress has total control over NATO.

They don't have to join me. I'm saying regardless of if it's NATO or not, whether we go to war should be left up to congress.

I think you'd be surprised. Without the U.S. NATO is basically nothing. no way would the other member countries fund the cost of NATO.

Congress always has the final say on wars. The War Powers Act of 1973 granted the President some limited short-duration powers, but the Congress has the final say. We are in treaties with NATO and elsewhere. That does not mean we have to go to war just because they do. If they wanted to engage a war we didn't agree with, they could do it on their own without us. All of the NATO countries are still sovereign nations even though they are members of NATO. NATO can't drag a country into war that doesn't want to be involved in a war.

Congress should take a vote and authorize or refuse to authorize any war except in an emergency, and in that case, they should do it as soon as possible.

ISIS would not happen if there weren't Iraq war. like it or not, Iraq was under iron rule, ISIS has no chance to survive under that. Also Iraq was countering IRAN. IRAQ was under sunni control, but after the war it is now under majority of shaii control which share same culture/religion etc as Iran.

Obama was delivered a victory in a democratic constitutional republic of Iraq. He gave away and in so doing lost any military, intelligence, air power control, and allowed Iran to gain control of Iraq which resulted in a complete collapse of the Iraqi army. That’s on Obama who is either one of the dumbest or most corrupt foreign policy leader since Neville Chamberlain.

It is indisputable and on record. The collapse of the Iraqi Army was a result

I don't know if that's his worst foreign policy mistake. The Libyan war and letting the Russkies punk him on the red line were pretty bad too.

...oh and removing our missile defense system from Eastern Europe without pre-conditions...

There is probably a long list.

It's so rare that I actually learn something new on this forum, it's worth noting when it happens.

Agreed but IMO abandoning Iraq which could have been the next South Korea tops even those fiascos.

Well I don't think it was ever going to be the next South Korea but it was an important Middle Eastern country that could have been a useful stabilizing influence, until Obama tossed it away.

To be fair though, he did run on doing just that, so it's a campaign promise kept.

Yes, he did promise that but if he really did not realize what would happen if he pulled everybody out with Iran on the border he is either incredibly stupid or just didn’t care about the human suffering which would follow.

"If we don't stop 'em in Vietnam, we'll be fighting 'em on the beaches of California!"
How often did I hear that during Basic and AIT at Tigerland in 1967.

Well, we didn't stop 'em in Vietnam ... and while California is looking more and more like a battlefield, it's not the Vietnamese Commies who are causing the problem. In fact, Vietnam is a flourishing capitalist country. Although apparently without a needle exchange program, or a feces-on-the-sidewalk Hotline, or other wonderful aspects of our culture.

Why why why are we in Iraq? Or Afghanistan? Yes,... they are desperately in need of American culture over there, provided by Hollywood. They don't have a single Transgender Education Program in their schools, and darned few Lesbian Outreach Centers ... so I can see the argument: we must teach them to be like us.

But ... I think we should be selfish, and leave them without these fine institutions, and bring our troops home. Let them get some combat practice against MI-13. If there are people in our embassy there who are trying to reconcile Sunni and Shia, let them come home and reconcile the Crips and the Bloods.
