If they are going to be weeded out in Basic, why even force them when you have millions TRYING to enlist? Do you know how tough the enlistment standards are and have been? Millions get denied because of a possession of pot charge, or a DUI. Imagine if those restrictions were lifted and these people with minor issues were allowed to follow their dreams and serve their country?

Army & Bob bring up important points that should be considered by all - yes, the government does make a BIG mistake by not allowing people with de minimus issues such as past minor charge possession of cannabis to join the military. They should be allowed to join. But then, the military should NEVER be used to fight foreign wars that profit the military industrial complex. They should be used to help relieve those suffering from natural disasters or other domestic emergencies.
You're blaming the MIC on the wrong people. The soldiers have nothing to do with it. The people you vote for do. There's nothing wrong with building and maintaining a huge, prepared and able military. Yes, foreign wars are not something we should be involved in- we agree there.

No one needs a military to do that. You want to serve your country? Then volunteer into a force specifically trained to relieve those suffering from natural disasters or other domestic emergencies. What enlightened intelligent human being would not support that? Joining a military to commit war crimes and other human rights atrocities serves nothing but evil.
There's always going to be war, for ever. So you're going to have to get over that. You should always be prepared for that inevitability.

Yeah, thanks to enablers like you who get excited at the thought. Not as long as I'm breathing. There's nothing for me to "prepare for", I have no intention of having anything to do with any war other than do what I can to fight against them.
LOL! Stop being so literal, it's pathetic. I didn't say "you" as in you personally, what I meant by that is we should all be prepared for that. Which most of us are. Every species, every person, every life form goes to war in one way or another. And when that time comes, it's the soldiers who are man enough to answer the call.
It takes an enlightened intelligent human being to do what he/she can do to avoid war at all cost. It takes a blithering fool to believe war is a macho ideology that one has to live one's life preparing for. There would never be any such thing as war if everyone lived their lives without ever joining the military. There will always be war when "macho" fools buy the snake oil propagandized by the military industrial complex.
Yes, avoiding war is great, but it'll never be avoidable forever. And you need men and women to sack up and fight when the bell rings.
